About Henry
Henry has spent two weeks with a trainer and WOW! See him in action in the videos. The trainer worked him only on sheep. He is good with dry ewes, rams, wethers etc. but not lambs at foot at the moment (he will select one and follow it). He is a paddock dog. Very little to no bark while working sheep. At the moment he doesn't like getting up on their backs but he has only had 2 weeks training so anything may be possible. In summary he is a great little paddock dog. Really half way between started and going.
On his foster carer's property, he was shown some cows. She said, "He wasn't too bad and would definitely work cattle too. He actually had a bit of bark with them when he needed it, which was good. He may even be better with cows in the long run."
We are hoping he will find a home where he can put his new found skills to use.
In general, Henry is a lovely natured, happy fellow. He loves a car trip and will hop in and look at you expectantly if you open the door.
He is genuinely one of the nicest natured dogs I've met. He has been friendly with every other dog he has met, and they have all loved him. He is respectful but playful - adapting his behaviour to the other dog's response - whether it be a shy pup or a calm older dog.
While in care he has been a great influence on new dogs coming into care with his happy, playful and friendly nature. He was started on obedience training and quickly learned sit, drop, stay, walk behind on a lead, jump up into the car/ute, ride on the back of a motorbike and he does the fastest 'spin' I've seen (see video!).
He will happily hop up on the trampoline with the kids - wherever there is some fun happening.
He is clever and eager to please. He doesn't guard his food, he is happy to be handled all over, have a bath and his nails trimmed.
He will need an experienced home that understands the requirements of an active kelpie. If you are looking for a highly trainable dog with a wonderful nature, Henry is your boy. He will reward you with a lifetime of loyalty and fun.
Henry is currently hanging out on his carer's property in the Guyra area, however, he can easily be brought to Sydney to meet prospective adopters.
