About Sophie ~ Maltese ~ Puppy (on trial 3/05/16)
We are delighted to finally be able to introduce Sophie, our 7 week old, female, Maltese puppy.
If you've followed their story, you'll already know that Sophie (and her 2 brothers) came into care when they were still in utero. They were delivered via emergency c-section on 23rd February 2016, and unfortunately one of their siblings didn't make it. These 3 however have shown to be healthy, bouncy little super stars and we are now comfortable to start taking expressions of interest.
Sophie is the littlest of 3, but she doesn't let the boys boss her around. She is tiny, but mighty, and enjoys her playtime and exploring as much as the next pup.
Due to her age she has not yet started training, and she will need someone to teach her manners. We always recommend puppy-training classes to give your new family member the best start in life. All dogs and puppies need plenty of affection, exercise, and training.
Sophie is an inside dog, and needs to find a home which will allow her to maintain this lifestyle. She would do well as an only dog, but only if there was someone home a lot. Otherwise, an older companion of similar size would be a great role model and companion for her. Regardless of the circumstances she will need someone home a lot In the initial few weeks to help her settle in.
Sophie has a low shedding coat which needs regular brushing (every few days depending on length), bathing (every few weeks) and clipping (every 4 to 8 weeks) to keep her comfortable and beautiful.
As Sophie is not yet desexed, she is only available for adoption to Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast and Port Stephens areas because she'll need to be returned to one of our vets for desexing when she's 4 or 5 months old. Her desexing is covered by her adoption fee, as is her 1st and 2nd vaccinations. Her 3rd vaccination will be at the expense of her new owner.
For more information or to meet Sophie, please contact Robyn on kworlinsmith@gmail.com or on 02 4953 7115 and leave a detailed message including your name, contact number, and please mention that you are calling in regards to the Maltese puppies. We are expecting an overwhelming response in regards to these puppies, so your patience on a call back is appreciated in advance. Sophie is in foster care in Neath, NSW (7 minutes east of Cessnock) and is not currently available for adoption interstate.
Sophie's adoption fee is $650 and includes her desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, and microchipping. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
