About Mr Casey
Okay, I'm Mr Casey. My life was pretty settled till my person died. Then I was on my own. We were best buddies for most of my life. After that I was moved around a bit, then I got a cancerous lump that had to be taken out and my 'temp person' told me that I had lost a home because they didn't want a dog that had had a lump like that. That was ages ago now and I've been with the one family for a while and I really like them - well yes I love them - because they put up with my crabbiness and my quirky ways. They keep saying things like 'if only I didn't have to go overseas you would never need to go anywhere'.
It took a while to teach them the rules - for example I like to sit on the couch beside them and know they are there, but I don't want them to hug me. And never never must they pick me up - I'm too macho to let them know that I had a bad experience some years ago and that's just the rule now - DON"T PICK ME UP. There's other stuff like that too but I can tell you about that later.
Well okay I'll just mention I'm a real grump in the morning. But surely you can relate to that. Don't you love your sleep ins and your beauty sleep too?
I'm okay with other dogs but yes I would prefer to have you to myself. And if I had a canine friend I would probably try to boss them around so maybe it should be just you and me.
I don’t really want to socialize too much. I love going for walks with you and with anyone I get to know well but too noise and action in those trendy inner city suburbs does make me anxious, although I try to hide by being a bit gruff and cranky. I don't like to admit it but I am jumpy, and cyclists, skateboarders, and even just some people can make me feel anxious and defensive.
I’ve just been on a training program with my temp parents and we all understand now that I’m happiest when I know the rules and know what I have to do. It’s really tiring and makes me crabby if I feel I have to look after you. I want to know you are looking after me (although you will have to convince me of that as I’m a strong minded guy).
What do I really want? I want you. I want two walks a day please, or one that is about 4 to 5 kms as I am still a fit guy. Then I'm happy to come home and watch you while I chill out. I’m fine being on my own quite a bit – they think I’m sleeping most of the day but I’d rather regard it as getting ready for you to come home.
I love to go in the car too and have even been on a camping trip. But I must say like a lot of 'seniors' I do like my regular routine best.
Okay I have a few other quirks too. And I'll whisper those to you later.
But what will you get from me? Let me learn to love and trust you and I will go to the ends of the earth for you. There are a lot of dogs out there that are easier than me but none will give you more love than I will once you and I both know the rules and I am comfortable with my surroundings. I'm a cautious boy at heart and not keen on people I don’t know but please don't hold that against me. It will take a while for me to settle and know that you are my person but then there will be no one else for me.
After all don't they say love conquers all. I’m waiting for you.

Mr Casey did have a cancerous lump removed near his groin. A specialist did this and was confident he had removed all the margins.
Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer a six-week full refund, free assistance for six weeks for any issues, and a lifetime takeback policy with a fifty percent refund of the adoption fee, and of course an invitation to our adopters’ Christmas party.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you too as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.

Priority will also be given to typed applications which are easier for us to read and to copy relevant parts.
