About Theo ~ Shih Tzu X (On Trial 7/5/16)
Introducing Theodore, Theo for short, the little pocket rocket! Theo is a one year old Shih Tzu cross who loves his humans - he will follow you around to keep you company when you're at home using every trick he has to get pats and cuddles. He’s got an irresistible puppy smile that’s infectious with everyone he meets.
Theo loves his daily walks in the neighbourhood - he has a typical Shih Tzu swagger and smile as he explores his surroundings and new smells. This is one little dog that is full of a whole lot of personality in a small package!
Theo is good with other dogs but introductions are important for him so he doesn’t feel too overwhelmed or get over excited. He would enjoy the companionship of another small dog if you have another friendly playful dog already. He would also suit being an only dog if you work from home or are home a lot and can give him lots of affection. He wouldn’t suit being left alone in the yard for long periods of time as he will get up to mischief – being such a young, playful dog he’s way too social to be isolated. Theo would suit a home with older kids who will play in the yard with him and mentally and physically stimulate him with fun games and toys.
Theo is in foster care with cats and he is often caught trying to give them kisses which can often result in him getting a scratch in return - Poor Theo is just trying to win the cats over with his love. Theo had no training prior to coming into foster care, he is learning how to sit, and come and he knows his name. He will need a family who are prepared to commit to training him using positive and reward based training.
Theo is an inside dog and needs to be allowed inside when her family is home and at night. Dogs and puppies enjoy being part of the family and get comfort from being inside with their humans.
Theo has a low shedding coat which needs regular brushing (every few days depending on length), bathing (every few weeks) and clipping (every 4 to 8 weeks) to keep him comfortable and beautiful. See Medical Notes for details on Theo's Flea Allergy.
For more information on Theo, please contact his foster carer Fiona on 0408 295 137 or email fiona.hopping@uon.edu.au. Theo is in foster care Singleton NSW, 2230 and is not available for adoption interstate.
Theo's adoption fee is $500 and includes his desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
Medical notes
Theo had a flea allergy when he first came into foster care. Since being in care he is flea free and his itchy and sore skin has healed. It is important that his adoptive family ensures he stays up to date with his flea treatments – both on him and his surroundings. Flea allergies result in dogs getting extremely itchy from flea bites which causes them to scratch their skin raw leading to loss of hair and inflamed skin – all avoidable with flea management strategies.
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
