Mia

Available for adoption! Mia is a small 27kg 18 month old Sarplaninac (Yugoslavian Shepherd Dog). Mia has had quite a few homes in the past and ended up at the Lost Dogs Home.
Mia is very active and is looking for a companion home and is great with cats and other male dogs. Mia like other Sarplaninac are very protective of their property. She needs a confident handler and a home on acreage.
I have trialled her with poultry but at certain times she becomes fixated on chasing them and as she has had many changes in her short life any poultry that may live on the property should be in an enclosure separate from Mia. I cannot risk her bring sent back if things don't work out with chooks or other livestock. She would be great to keep foxes away from poultry from their enclosure.
Mia is house trained and she would need to go to a home with older children as she can get a little possessive of her food bowl.
Mia is very sweet and very alert and learns quickly. She would be great as a watch dog with another male dog. Her companion dog needs to be fit and younger as she bullied my elderly Maremma Sam. She loves a chasey game with other dogs. Mia would be fine to be an only dog!
I would suggest there be no other female dogs on the property as many Livestock Guardian Breeds are not great in a female/ female scenario.
The property needs to have good fencing and property check will be carried out. It would be great if the new home had experience with Livestock Guardian Breeds or Guardian Breeds.
Mia just wants to be loved and have lots of space to run around. She travels well in a car but is not a dog to walk to a local park due to her protective nature.
Mia is still learning to walk on a leash and learn certain commands so further training is needed. I can say she is eager to learn!
Mia is desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, had her dew claws removed, wormed and her adoption fee is $350. She is being fostered in South West Victoria near Birregurra.
