Ava - Shar Pei (on trial 17/04/16)

Introducing Ava! She's a beautiful black Shar Pei, and we are assuming she is approximately 3 years old (or younger).As you can see she has gorgeous wrinkles, a big black nose, tiny ears and a curly tail. We think she looks like a very cute little black bear.
She is roughly the size of a Kelpie, but with a more solid build (of course).
Ava gets a long really well with our other dog who is a similar size. Ava has also lived with a large dog from her original home, and also a small dog at her first foster home, who she got a long well with also.
Ava is a very affectionate girl who loves nothing more than pats, cuddles and playing in the back yard with her toys. She is very gentle with children and doesn't jump up on our 5 year old son when he's out in the yard playing. We have also introduced her to our 10 month old daughter who she is also very gentle with.
She can sit on command and we are continuing to teach her this and other commands. She really enjoys learning (and treats). She loves going for a walk and does well on a lead, but she can tug a bit sometimes so a harness is best to walk her with. Shar Pei's don't handle the heat as well as some other breeds, as their skin folds. Plus her black colouring also doesn't help, so she is best walked early in the morning or late afternoon/evening. Ava will also need a yard that has good shade for her to lay in during the warmer months.
She has a very placid and easy going nature.She rarely barks - mainly only when she's telling me someone has arrived or if people or other dogs are walking past and she wants to say hello.
Ava is house trained and after the excitement of coming inside she settles down and falls asleep on the rug.
Ava would make a very loving, loyal pet for a family as she loves playing and interacting with people. I think she would be fine with another dog or on her own - as long as she got plenty of attention and play time. She can be a little bossy when the occasion calls for it, but nothing extreme. She benefits from positive reinforcement, as sometimes she likes to try and open the back door to come inside. Understanding her behaviour will help a lot with her training.
She is such a sweetie who deserves a loving home with plenty of play time,attention and walks, so if you feel you can offer this to Ava we encourage you to get in touch.
