About Magic Mikey ~ Heeler x Staffy x (on trial 13/04/16
Meet Mikey - Magic Mikey! - a beautiful 9 month old Heeler X Staffy X Cuddle-bug. If there's one thing you'll learn quickly about Mikey (and his brother Donnie who is also available for adoption) it's that he loves to cuddle you! Whether it’s putting his paws around your waist for a bear hug and pats, or putting his paws on your shoulders and laying his head on you or crawling onto your lap if you are sitting on the floor – this is one boy who loves to be right with you soaking up your love.
Mikey is bouncy, friendly and incredibly smart - it doesn't take him long to pick up new commands. He learnt "sit" after the second attempt. He even brought the ball back when playing fetch after one playing session. Mikey is very gentle and playful - he would ideally love a home with another friendly, active dog of any size to play chasings and rumble with. He is in foster care with a terrier and a border collie and he play bows and does the cutest body-wiggle-jump to ask them to play with him. His little foster brother Harry tells him who's boss - Mikey isn’t daunted by this at all – he is just more determined to win him over with love! Mikey has been on a play date with 12 dogs of all sizes and breeds - he was a little scared at first but after he realised they were all friendly he's body took on a playful wiggle and he bounded around in glee.
Mikey knows his name well and once he knows you he will be quick to teach recall. In a fenced park he will come back to you if you call him (as a pup he still gets distracted playing but with consistent training he'll improve his focus). He loves food and praise from his humans so he'll do anything for you. He's child friendly - he does jump up to cuddle kids around the waist, or climb on to their laps, so he will be best with older kids who won’t be scared of his playfulness and who won’t accidentally get knocked over with his love. He loves to give you kisses too - so he's best suited with a family who is happy with doggy licks !
Mikey would love a good sized yard that he can zoom around in and secure colourbond fencing. Before coming into care Mikey and his brother lived on a veranda and could climb the waist high rail so they got used to roaming. So to keep him safe from harm his new family needs to help him understand that roaming is not safe for him. For this reason he is not suited to being a yard only dog – he will get lonely and go looking for love. Mikey is very loyal and loves nothing more than being part of his family’s activities. He would love a walk or run every day and a couple or family who will continue teaching him tricks as he enjoys the treats and mental stimulation of learning new things.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
