About Ziggy ~ poodle, 7yo (On trial 20/03/16)
Ziggy is a gorgeous Poodle, 7 years old. He is so adorable he's earned the nickname “Teddy Bear” in his foster home. He’s a gentle soul who loves nothing more than being wherever you are. He is medium sized, a cross between a Standard Poodle and a Miniature Poodle.
Ziggy is the perfect dog if you have older kids and are home most of the time. I have a seven year old son that just adores him (yes, it will be hard to let Ziggy go; he has really grown on us!). Ziggy loves being inside the home and being part of the family. He also loves car rides!
Ziggy can be a bit timid when meeting someone new. Just give him space and time to work things out. He can also be a bit jumpy with loud unexpected noises. Just give him a few days to get used to his new home environment and he’ll settle in perfectly. I would have to stress, again, that Ziggy needs to go to a home where someone is home most of the time as he does get quite distressed when he is left alone (I work from home so he lies around my home office like he owns the place). As with any dog, Ziggy would benefit from some basic and ongoing training (he will sit for cheese!). He’s a very smart boy and will pick up on things very quickly.
Poodles don't shed so they need regular brushing (every few days depending on length), bathing (every few weeks) and clipping (every 4 to 8 weeks) to keep him comfortable and beautiful. Ziggy is an inside dog and needs to be allowed inside and to sleep inside.
Ziggy is good with cats. He seems to be good with other dogs. He can be a bit timid though so if you have another dog Ziggy would need to meet them before adoption. Ziggy was sadly surrendered to a pound by his elderly owners who could no longer care for him.
Ziggy would also suit someone who is moderately active. He loves a good walk and sniff around the neighbourhood. He’s quite good on the lead but, again, some training would see him learn to walk on the left.
Overall he’s a gorgeous boy who has already stolen a piece of my heart! Please, only apply if you are home quite a lot as this will be my number one consideration for Ziggy.
For more information or to meet Ziggy, please contact his foster carer Leah by email lrstevens74@gmail.com. Ziggy is in foster care in Kotara, NSW (Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate but you must come to meet him.
Ziggy's adoption fee is $300 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
