About Max ~ Poodle x Maltese, 6yo (adopted 5/3/16)
Meet Max! Max is a 6yo Poodle x Maltese ("Moodle") - he looks like mostly poodle. He is clever little guy who loves to play and snuggle. There is nothing he enjoys more than fetching a ball and an ear scratch. Max was rescued from a pound and is ready to begin his new life in a loving home.
Max is an indoor dog. He's toilet trained but will still have the occasional accident but the improvement over such a short time is a testament to his quick grasp of things. He is looking for a home with no young children under twelve as he likes to chew and will chew on them if given the chance. He isn't keen on quick movements either. Max enjoys spending some time with older children though, especially fetch with his eight year old carer. After a good game he does like to take his toy for a chew and have some quiet time alone.
Max gets along with his 11 yo foster brother but is a little too energetic for him. When senior boy tells Max to leave him alone, in no uncertain terms, Max takes it very well. Max can be a bit possessive of his humans and toys so his adopters need to take some advice from one of our volunteer trainers about how to teach him that he doesn't need to defend his valuables. It's important not to punish him because that will destroy trust and make matters worse.
Max would love to be with an older family who will take him for walks and give him plenty of quiet cuddles. He is quite timid around loud noises and swinging things like doors, brooms and feet.
Max has a non-shedding coat which needs regular brushing (every few days depending on length), bathing (every few weeks) and clipping (every 4 to 8 weeks) to keep him comfortable and beautiful. He has a slight allergy - so can scratch a lot and has slightly darker hair around the paws due to our backyard. We aren't sure what causes it but when he's had a very playful day outside it tends to show up. Hopefully his new backyard won't have whatever bothers him and the vet wasn't worried at all as it's not annoying enough to give him medication. Maxy just takes it all in his stride.
He always has a smile and he's sure to make you smile too!

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
