Rex ~ Red Kelpie, senior boy (Trial 26/4/16)

G’day. I’m Rex and I’m an 11 year old red Kelpie. As you can see from my photo’s I’m a very good looking fellow and I’m quite fine boned for a kelpie as I’m on the smaller side. I have a great soul and have eyes that will melt the ladies hearts – I just want to be your friend and loyal companion.

I’ve recently retired from the farm and am now looking at potential retirement homes to live out the remainder of my days. Being a working breed, I’m very smart, friendly and agile for my age. Yes I’m a little grey around the muzzle but that doesn’t hold me back from enjoying an active lifestyle with my humans. I've got lovely manners, I like holding your hand with my paw and looking at you to turn your heart to mush (yes it's a gift). I love being mentally stimulated so I would love a family who will spend a lot of time with me and take me for walks. I won’t suit being isolated in the yard as I’m a bit of a ninja and will scale a fence if I’m bored or not included in your fun life.

Having said that, I spend most of my days just relaxing and catching up on some shut-eye - I like lying around in the sun, just taking in the rays and enjoying my freedom. I do like to go for a stroll either after smoko (oops, I mean breakfast) or after chow in the evening with my human, just chewing the fat and enjoying the serenity.

Don’t tell me mates, but I also like cuddles. I'm a bit like George Clooney and will shower you with love. No need to worry though, I’m not one of those needy nancy pancy dogs, I just like you to know that I’m in touch with my feminine side too. Truth be known, I’d be very happy being an only dog and in return, I will be your best mate. Having spent years living and working with other dogs, I just want to be able to retire in peace. Being an older chap, those young pups with their non-stop barking and cheeky shenanigans are too much for me so I can occasionally be grumpy with them – but hey, I’ve done my time and don’t feel like babysitting the young ones now that I’m in my cruisey retirement years.

I like to sit inside at night and watch the box with my humans, especially shows like Dogs with Jobs on Animal Planet. I’m not needy though so I also enjoy my own space. I’d heard about dogs in the big-smoke needing to sleep in the human’s bed, butI’m not that sort of guy, I’m happy to sleep out under the stars on the trampoline or in a cosy kennel. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to sleep in the big house but like I said, I’m no nancy so I won’t demand it. Oh, and if you have cuddles to dish out then remember that I'm more than happy to help you with those!
