About Sakari
Meet Sakari. Just over 4 years old, this pretty lady has a lot of love to give and is going to make someone a very proud owner.
Sakari's family recently had a lifestyle change leaving her bored and lonely. Malamutes are a dog that must be treated as part of the family and be allowed inside the home, so it was decided a rehome is most ethical for her. Since spending too much time on her own, their chickens have become a source of entertainment for her, so a poultry-free house is a must.
The Alaskan Malamute is the largest of the arctic breeds. A Malamute is well-built and solid, and originally the breed was used for sledding. It is not a breed for just anyone. They are extremely intelligent and affectionate, but they are also a powerful breed. Their owner must provide firm, clear leadership and daily exercise. Malamutes will become stubborn and destructive if not fulfilled. Luckily they love to please, and will do anything to make their leader happy. They thrive from positive reinforcement.
Most Malamutes are friendly with dogs of the opposite gender but not those of the same, but love children (of course no child should be left alone with any dog however). Sakari doesn't have a history of fighting but careful, controlled introductions are a must.
Malamutes are known for their digging skills, so a secure yard is vital. To keep Sakari safe she requires 6ft minimum fencing, made of anything she can't dig under or climb over, as the outside world is just too enticing. She doesn't bark much.
Grooming is a very important part of Malamute ownership. They have a very dense coat which needs to be brushed twice a week, or daily when they are in full coat blow. Sakari's undercoat will shed twice yearly and if you don't remove this properly if can become painful for her. Because of her coat, a lot of shade and cool water is vital in ensuring she doesn't overheat, and she should never be exercised in the heat of the day. It is never recommended to shave a Malamute's coat.
If you are a strong leader looking for a loyal companion, and have a secure yard, book a meet and greet with Sakari. She won't disappoint. Sakari comes desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea treated, for $315.
Adoption details
There is a pre-adoption questionnaire that you can fill out to express your interest in one of our pets. Please message us to ask for one. Then we can meet up in a park or at your home to decide if this is the right pet for you! If you have other pets it would be ideal to bring them with you.
Adoption comes with a one week trial to make sure you are the perfect fit for each other and there is a contract for you to sign so you know we are all covered. Everyone is vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and desexed for adoption. If puppies and kittens are too young for desexing, this is added into a special clause in the contract and the surgery is pre-paid at the time of adoption. Then when old enough, the pet can be sent for surgery at no cost.
