Dolly ~ American Bulldog (on trial 16/07/16)

Well hellooo Dolly! Meet our American Bulldog girl. She’s a special lady, and not at all a breed that is commonly seen around the streets, all of which makes her a unique kinda gal!

Dolly is around 5 years old and she’s a very calm, sweet girl. She’s not fazed by storms or loud noises and is happiest when she can just relax near her family. She loves a cuddle and is happy to give you a kiss, but she doesn’t seem to expect your affection, so we think Miss Dolly might not have been given much love in her previous life. She needs to find her forever home where she can be part of the family and know that she is loved.

Dolly is a bit of a plodder. She keeps her 4 feet on the floor, no jumping around at all which, considering her size, is good. She has the muscled chest and large head of her breed, and she measures around 58 cm from the ground to the top of her head.

She walks well in a harness or on a lead and doesn’t pull ahead. Whilst mostly she will trot along next to you quite happily, she does think she’s a sniffer dog at times and can display a bit of a stubborn streak - so if she thinks it’s more sensible to go sniff the leaves on the kerb instead of where you want her to go, she might require you to ask her nicely before she agrees.

Dolly is a very easy girl to manage and has been highly trainable with food so once she knows what the rules are, she is very obedient. All she asks in return is that she can spend her time around people. She would be better suited to people that are home most of the day.

Dolly is quite used to spending some time outside during the day (she’s partial to a good bit of sunbathing and finds the garden is an exceptionally good place for meditation), but she sleeps inside at night and for the most part will sit herself comfortably where she can keep an eye on everyone.

Miss Dolly is quite happy to meet other dogs but prefers her human friends. She loves meeting new people and happily welcomes them into her home (so she probably wouldn’t make much of a guard dog!). She would be better with bigger dogs because smaller dogs and cats look like something that might be fun to chase! She did have a tiff with another male dog at her foster-carer’s house; we don’t think it was anything much, but Miss Dolly might like to give her opinion first on any other dogs in a prospective new owner’s family. She would undoubtedly be fine as an only dog. This being said, because of her calm personality, with a bit of perseverance she seems like she could get along with whoever is in her family.

What we’ve seen of her with children is very promising and we feel that the more people around the house there are, the happier she will be.

She has been a good learner and is very obedient and quiet. We think she would be most suited to either a retiree that wants a companion around the house that doesn’t require much work - or a family. Dolly doesn’t need much, just to know that you’re there for her so the less time she spends alone, the better.

Dolly is located in Broadmeadow (Newcastle, NSW). She enjoys a good ride in the car so needing to travel is unlikely to be a problem for her. She's available for adoption interstate.
