About Copper *On Trial in His New Home*
*COPPER IS CURRENTLY TRIALING HIS NEW HOME - NO MORE ENQUIRIES/APPLICATIONS PLEASE* Meet Copper!! He’s after a loving forever home who understands scent hounds as they’re definitely not the dog for everyone…….
Recently surrendered to us through no fault of his own Copper is a typical Bloodhound who enjoys adventures and sniffing out what the world has on offer. And although he has good recall in his own yard you’d need to be prepared to have him on-lead whenever he’s outside these boundaries as it’s hard to get a Bloodhound’s attention once they’ve picked up a scent and they’re off and running – a loose Bloodhound is often a dead Bloodhound as they have no road sense. Copper loves water though even when he’s swimming in the Murray River he’s still attached to a lead albeit a very long one.
Copper is described as a not overly energetic, good-natured, friendly and cruisey boy who gets along well with other dogs. Bloodhounds love attention and family companionship above everything else making Copper terrific around humans of all shapes and sizes including children.
The Bloodhound is not exactly a star in the obedience ring; they are not stupid by any means just wonderfully independent and quite stubborn, so they are not terribly motivated to perform the owner pleasing behaviors required for formal obedience, though in saying that Copper knows “sit” and is learning to do so before eating his meals. Food is something that Copper does enjoy and boy can he sniff it out, so bins and other accessible food containers need to be kept out of his reach.

Being 2 years old Copper is over the worst of the “digging and chewing” stage. He is not at all in your face or licky and usually only barks for a reason making him a good watchdog. He is scared of fireworks though ok with thunder.
Copper is toilet trained and loves coming inside though you’ll need to keep a handtowel ready to wipe the drool, but hey what’s a bit of slobber between friends! He’d be best suited to a home with another dog for company if his humans were going to be away at work for long hours. A secure, good-sized yard as Bloodhounds do like to explore their surrounds plus daily walks and bones to chew on will make Copper very happy indeed!

Adoption details
Please Note: SARG and our animals for adoption are located in Mildura in North-West Victoria.
Our adoption process commences with completing an Application form which you'll find at: www.sarg.net.au
The Application is then reviewed, references checked and a yard check done, then, if there are no issues, a meet and greet is organised. If all goes well the last stage is a 28 day home-trial to make sure that everyone is happy.
If the trial is successful our “stray” is then officially considered adopted and the microchip transferred into the new owners name.
If anything goes wrong SARG will always take back one of our animals :)
