About Rufus ~ Kelpie X (On Trial 18/3/16)
Hi my name is Rufus and I am a 2 1/2 year old Kelpie X Ladies Man! I love all people but I especially love my teenage human sister in my foster home and all of her friends, I could follow them around all day. I am a perfect gentleman with the ladies and
I am friendly with everyone I meet when we go out.
I am in foster care as an only dog and I’m fine with that as it means I get lots of love and cuddles from my family. I do enjoy the company of other dogs when we are out and about – especially when we go to the beach and there are other dogs around. I am in foster care with a cat who I love a lot – sometimes I can chase other cats just to show them my love so I’m learning as they might not want my love. I love little humans a lot, I cuddle up with my human foster brothers and sisters and we watch TV and hang out inside on the couch or floor. I am best suited to kids who are confident with medium, active dogs as I’m very attuned to people being nervous around me. I only really jump up when there are other dogs around and that’s mainly for attention – if you turn your back on me I calm down and stop jumping.
I am an inside dog because I love to be around my humans and I sleep inside on my own bed at nights so I am never far from the action. If my family are out for the day I like to hang outside in the yard where I can run around and play with my toys. I will be your best friend if you have squeaky toys - I like to play fetch but my idea of fetch is when you throw the ball and then chase me - I am very quick!
Playing at the beach is one of my favourite things to do and you can let me off my leash and I will come back to you. I frolic in the water and play with other dogs, it really is the best day out! I’m good in the car when we go out and really love being involved in your family activities each day. I have a stunning brindle coat and a large bushy tail like a fox… I absolutely love being brushed and am happy to sit there all day being brushed if you have the time!
My foster mum says I am a quick learner and my foster family have taught me some neat tricks. I can sit, stay, lay down, shake and I am polite at dinner time and will wait for my food until you tell me it is ok to eat. I will do anything for a tasty treat (just between you and me liver cookies are my fave!) and I am not a fussy eater at all. I particularly like chicken and rice and veggies and even pumpkin soup! I am not a fan of hard bones or hard treats though as they can sometimes hurt my mouth.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
