Toby ~ 9 year old Labrador (on trial 29/03/16)

Introducing Toby – your typical friendly, loving and gentle Labrador. He is a very happy boy – he’s extremely sociable and quite enthusiastic with everything in life – Toby loves the whole world!

Although Toby is 9 years old he still jumps up and down like a puppy sometimes especially when he greets you or when he knows he’s going for a walk. He loves his food (don’t all Labradors?!) so he gets excited at dinner time but he will sit when asked and will wait to be told to eat. He is gentle when taking treats from your hand as well – he’s got lovely manners.

Toby is great with other dogs and loves the company of his current canine foster sister. Toby would love to have a canine friend in his new home or a person who is home a lot (perhaps someone who works from home or a stay at home parent). At 9 years old this social chap is a real companion dog so gets lonely if left alone too long.

Toby adores the attention of his humans and loves a pat or scratch or even just to lay quietly at your feet. Being an older dog, Toby has a bit of arthritis in his front leg. He has been receiving weekly injections in the last few weeks and there has been a vast improvement. The vet has advised he would benefit from 3 monthly injections and a lifestyle which will continue with regular gentle exercise and easy walks. Toby enjoys short walks to a nearby creek and loves to swim in the water and lay down in the water to cool off. His arthritis doesn’t stop him from jumping in and out of the car and he travels well. He even enjoys the trip to the vet!

Like many other dogs, he is not a fan of thunder and becomes a big sook during storms so he’d love a family who will keep him inside and provide him comfort when he needs it most. Toby is very much an inside / outside dog – he loves to have access to come in and out as he pleases – either to spend time with his people inside or to lay outside in the sun on a nice day. He is toilet trained too. Toby is neither a digger nor a fence jumper – so 5 foot fencing will be fine for him. He has well and truly grown out of puppy stage so he’s not a destructive chewer like those cheeky young pups. He doesn’t play with toys as he’s not quite sure what to do with them – he would much rather play games with his people instead!
