About Jaffa
This lovely kelpie boy is Jaffa and he is 1yo.
An experienced dog handler spent some time with him and these were her observations;
Lead attachment/walking - demonstrated minimal exposure to lead. When stationary tried to flip lead off. When given stimulation such as steady walking, he was focussed.
Introduced sit with treats - not treat focussed but responded to ball with attentiveness. While walking at steady pace introduced his name to gain attention he responded with eye contact to handler on several occasions. Looked to the handler for direction when he realised the flipping wasn't getting him anywhere. He picked up on that very quickly.
More controlled walks would only serve to benefit this boy and the improvement I feel would be steady and productive.
I feel he would have a huge potential to be dog that could be trained up to a high level as he focuses well when spoken to and given direction. A great project. This boy is a 'blank canvas' that shows great potential in introduction of work/stimulation activities and the eye focus he gives would reward the owner in loyalty. He was happy to see our 10yo volunteer and wasn't too phased by passing dogs or cats.
