About Ben
"Hi I'm Ben and I'm on the lookout for a cuddle buddy. Are you the one? I am about 4 years old and just LOVE to snuggle with my favourite human... Well let's be honest, I love to snuggle with any human. I promise to give you lots of love and body heat and I'm better than a hot water bottle in winter. Snuggles on the couch, cuddles under the quilt, huddles with the family - you name it, if it involves affection then I will love it! Are you my new family?"
Ben is one of the sweetest and most handsome dog we've met, he has won the hearts of the Chihuahua Rescue Qld team. His gorgeous markings and lovely shiny coat make him stand out from the crowd.
Ben came into care after being passed around a few too many times, which was very hard on him. He has learnt to trust again, and is doing so well in foster care. Ben was originally given to a couple who then moved overseas, and they rehomed him to another lovely lady, however she unfortunately worked long hours and he didn't cope well with being home alone all day every day.
Ben has the typical Chihuahua nature of being protective and very alert. He would make the perfect little watch dog, always alerting his foster mum to the goings-on in the neighbourhood. We are working with him to help him understand that he can relax and doesn't need to be worried about what's going on outside.
Little Ben would love a companion that is home a lot with him, he adores other dogs and loves to play. Another canine companion would be ideal for little Ben, however most of all he loves his humans, and he would really fret if he was left alone for long hours each day. The ideal home for Ben would be one where his family work from home or perhaps someone who is retired. Ben does not have severe separation anxiety, but he is happiest when surrounded by those he loves.
Like any small Chihuahua, Ben takes some time to warm up to new people, so someone who has experience with the breed or other similar small dogs would be ideal. We would prefer him to go to a home without small children as he has snapped at little kids in the past, however he is currently in foster care with some very gentle and dog-savvy young girls and he adores them.
If you think you might be the right home for dear little Ben, we'd love to hear from you.
Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside, Jindalee, Browns Plains or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heart worm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
Adoption details
The first step to adopting a dog from us is to fill out an expression of interest form.
We encourage you to provide as much detail as possible about your family and your home as this helps us make sure we match you with the most suitable dog.
This form can be found at the following address: http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/Kczrs885x4lq3N9u4mQhca
Please note: we do not organise any meet and greet without a completed expression of interest form.
Our adoption process involves:
1) Completing online application form
2) Arranging a meet and greet with the dogs foster carer, after which we ask you to take 24 hours to make a decision about whether you want to adopt this dog
3) A brief home visit and yard check from one of our volunteers
4) Adoption trial spanning four weeks.
We ask that you pay the dogs adoption fee at the beginning of the adoption trial, however this will be refunded if for any reason the dog is not working out in your home within the four week period. We offer a four week adoption trial to make sure that you have plenty of time for your new dog to settle into your home and so we can offer you full support during this period and beyond.
We offer a free health check with our vets at Indooroopilly, Browns Plains, Jindalee or Chermside vet clinic after you’ve adopted your dog and every dog in our care is up to date with all vet work.
We have many dogs that are in foster care and are not yet ready to be listed for a variety of reasons. If you have a good idea of what you are looking for in your new dog please email us at chihuahuarescueqld@gmail.com and let us help you match a dog to your needs.
