About Baxter ~ Terrier X ~ On Trial 12/2/16
Hi! My name is Baxter, or as my foster mum calls me, Little Bax. As you can see, I'm a pocket sized package of cuteness! I'm approximately 4-5 years old and my favourite things in life are my humans, chasing a ball, having my ears and chin scratched, swimming in my paddle pool fishing for toys, going for walkies and joining you for trips in the car.
I love soft comfy beds so much that I roll around on them having a good scratch for hours - I then fall asleep on them exhausted. I'm a real people dog so I love snuggles with you - my favourite person ever! When I first meet people I can be a bit shy until I know them. Once I get to know you I'll jump into your lap for cuddles and scratches. I'm best with children over 15 as I find little kids too overwhelming and scary when they are playing. I can nip when frightened or crowed and I often misread little kids intentions – it’s not their fault, I just don’t understand them.
I'm very tiny as I'm only 6kg and I find big dogs very daunting. I'm in foster care with two big friendly dogs and I'm not keen on being their friend at all. If they ignore me I'm content as they are too bouncy and exuberant for my liking – their rough and tumble games don’t interest me at all! My perfect home would be one where I am the only fur child because I really just want your love all to myself as I haven't had much attention before.
I will happily play fetch with you until your arm falls off - I can also keep myself entertained happily running around the yard with my own toys chewing and squeaking them. I don't mind being home by myself for a little while as long as I have lots of toys but I really do love spending time with my people. If you have a life that you can involve me in a lot of the time that would be so much fun!
I'm pretty good at walking on a lead, and because I'm so little (don't tell the big dogs that, they think I'm pretty tough) even if I pull I'm still easy to walk. I don't mind fireworks but I can find really loud thunderstorms pretty scary so I like to sit in a cosy spot underneath something or be near you to make me feel safe. I sit for my dinner and treats, and I'm a gentleman taking treats. I’m very smart so respond well to new training. My foster mum has been leading training me to get me used to the big boofa dogs and I’ve responded very quickly.
I'm an easy to care for chap who enjoys a daily brush every day and a bath every 2-4 weeks - I am OK with both as it means more time spent with you! I don't shed a lot of hair so a trip to the groomers every few months to keep my coat and beard trimmed keeps me looking suave.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
