About Max
Hi, I am Max, a beautiful 13-month old kelpie/pointer x.
Meeting new people, I can be very shy and unsure and tend to bark, but if you give me some time to greet you on my own terms, I will warm with you and shower you with affection and love, you just have to be patient at first and let me come to you. I am currently practicing meeting new people with my foster mum and improving every day, this will make me more and more confident and with ongoing consistent training, I am sure I will lose this fear in the near future.
I love other dogs, a bit shy meeting new dogs too, but thoroughly enjoy playing with them, and if they don’t want to play, I am happy to just hang around them as well. My foster family also has kids, but as with adults, I just need to be given time to get to know them as well.
The only time I get a bit too excited and jumpy is, when I greet my humans when they come home, but who could blame me for that. Other than that I am a good boy, am toilet trained and walk reasonably well on the lead. Being a kelpie cross, I will need daily walks, I have lots of energy to burn. I listen well to commands and have so much more potential with more obedience training.
I also love to come on family outings and have been included in my foster family’s daily life, which I absolutely love, just feel unsure when strangers want to touch me, but if they ignore me and give me some space, I am perfectly fine. And I absolutely love the beach, enjoy running through the water! Also don’t mind to chase a ball or another dog, that chases a ball.
I even wouldn’t mind to live with a confident cat, as long as I am introduced slowly, currently living with a cat at my foster family’s house, she doesn’t like me too much, so normally I just leave her alone, only sometimes I still like to chase her and have to be reminded not to do this.
I totally adore my humans and follow them around everywhere, if they are home, I am close by. Therefore, I definitely need a home, where I am allowed inside, as I have been living inside since being a puppy.
My new forever home would perfectly have someone, who is not working full-time, as I don’t enjoy being by myself too much, or otherwise it would be great to have another friendly dog as company. Also a friendly companion dog might help me gain more confidence with strangers. My new owners need to understand to be patient and give me space to get to know new people and continue practicing this with me.
I am currently in care in Epping, if you are interested in adopting me please go to www.startingoverdogrescue.org.au and fill out an adoption interest form and we will be in touch.
