About Sonny Jim
Sonny Jim is the last of his litter to be listed as he snuck off for a sleep when the others were being photographed!
Sonny Jim is the son of Lilo and is 9 weeks old (born 16.10.15). His father was a pure maremma and his mum is a husky x malamute x golden retriever.
Please note that Sonny Jim and the rest of his litter WILL NOT be rehoused into residential areas. So please do not decide you have to have him unless you are on acreage and have substantial experience of owning dogs.
Maremma's are a herd guarding dog that use their size and bark to protect their flock. For this reason, owning one in town can be a recipe for neighbourly disharmony and ultimately causes many of these beautiful dogs to be surrendered back to rescue groups.
On the other side of his genetic make up are the willful breeds of husky and malamute, which can have high prey drives and are intelligent escape artists. So Sonny Jim will need an owner who can safely contain him.
So for this little man the recipe for a successful placement with be: an owner on acreage, who has owned large breed dogs before (preferably Maremma's) and who can dedicate time to ongoing socialisation and training. Sonny Jim will not be adopted out as a working dog, but may need something such as penned chooks to safely guard in order to keep him happy.
Sonny Jim has grown up with lots of people (including children) handling him and has learnt great dog etiquette from his mum and the other large dogs in his foster placement.
The adoption fee is $400 which helps cover his desexing, microchipping, first vaccination and parasite treatment.
If you would like to know more about Sonny Jim or think you could be the human he's after, please send a detailed email to lydia.ward44@outlook.com (including where you live, your experience with dogs, your phone number and any questions you may have).
