About Raffy - Special Needs
Our very special little man, Raffy is now taking applications! Raffy is a Persian mix and is about 10 months old now, but small for his age. Raffadoodle has a deformed back leg (who we call Juan!)
Essentially Raffy was born with his back right leg on backwards! His leg is permanently bent backwards and he uses his 'knee' for balance and support. When Raffy first arrived, we fully planned to have his leg amputated, but after many chats with our vet and having watched how he uses it, we have, after a lot of thought, decided to for now, at least to leave Raffy's "crazy friend Juan" (as we call his leg!) in place for a number of reasons. Firstly, and most importantly, it's the strong recommendation of our fabulous and very clever vet! Secondly, being a "NQR" (not quite right!) kitteh, and with his very slow development, we're just not prepared to risk an anesthetic, for an operation that isn't medically necessary. Raffy has no pain or issues with "Juan", other than him having a mind of his own, which occasionally means getting in Raffy's way!
The big concern with removing the leg, is that because he was born with it, and has always used it in his own way, removing the leg, could throw out his balance and cause him to have to learn to walk again.
For these reasons, we will not be amputating Raffy's leg, before adopting him to his forever home. His new family, will however be able to make their own decision, in consultation with their vet, re Juan's future.
Raffy LOVES to play with other cats and toys and pretty much anything that moves! He gets around almost as well as your average kitteh, but will require an indoor only home with no stairs. Raffy's new family must be financially able to surgically remove Juan, should the need arise (though there is no reason to think it will) and this will cost in the range of $500, should it be required, or should his people decide they would like to electively remove Juan!
Raffy has had ongoing issues with his eyes, due to blocked tear ducts, but this has been getting a lot better, as he gets older. He will likely always have a slightly weepy eye, but apart from the occasional flare up, requiring ointment for a few days, they're really just your average 'Persian" eyes!
Raffy is a darling, sweet, happy, playful boy who will make a wonderful addition to an indoor only home, that doesn't mind having a family member that is a little bit different! ;)
Please note, a vet clinic reference (not more than 2 years old) will be required from successful applicants.
Raffy is in care in Croydon
Medical notes
