About Puppet
Puppet is a gorgeous little man who has had the great fortune of coming into our care. Puppet's condition was very poor when he was transfered to us from the shelter, however thanks to our wonderful vet team working closely with his committed foster carer, he has regained his health and is doing exceptionally well.
Puppet is personality plus, he is loving and friendly. He adores affection from his foster family, and gets along great with other dogs and cats too!
Puppet enjoys car rides, back scratches and spending time with his foster family. In fact his foster carer doesn't have a bad word to say about him. In her words "he's perfect." He is the perfect gentleman.
Puppet does however have some old man health issues. See below. Please consider adopting a special old man like Puppet.
Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heart worm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
Puppet has a heart murmur that does not require any medication as yet and may never need to. This has been thoroughly investigated by our vet team and he has had blood tests and chest xrays. He is showing no signs of congestive heart failure, however will require monitoring for changes as he gets older. Heart murmurs are common in chihuahuas and with management they do not stop the dogs from living a happy and healthy life.
He also suffers from dry eye which means he will have to have ongoing medication for this. He is always well behaved for his eye drops and these keep him comfortable and happy.
Puppet has luxating patellas - a condition common in chihuahuas. Sadly, his health has been neglected by his previous owners for so long that his chronically dislocated knee caps have caused degeneration in his hips as well. This means that he is not a surgical candidate, as the patella surgery will only stabilise his knees but not resolve his hip issues. Our vet has recommended that we do not put him through painful patella surgery when we know that is will not resolve his pain. Instead we are treating him with daily pain medication to keep him pain free and he remains bright, mobile and happy.
Adoption details
The first step to adopting a dog from us is to fill out an expression of interest form.
We encourage you to provide as much detail as possible about your family and your home as this helps us make sure we match you with the most suitable dog.
This form can be found at the following address: http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/Kczrs885x4lq3N9u4mQhca
Please note: we do not organise any meet and greet without a completed expression of interest form.
Our adoption process involves:
1) Completing online application form
2) Arranging a meet and greet with the dogs foster carer, after which we ask you to take 24 hours to make a decision about whether you want to adopt this dog
3) A brief home visit and yard check from one of our volunteers
4) Adoption trial spanning four weeks.
We ask that you pay the dogs adoption fee at the beginning of the adoption trial, however this will be refunded if for any reason the dog is not working out in your home within the four week period. We offer a four week adoption trial to make sure that you have plenty of time for your new dog to settle into your home and so we can offer you full support during this period and beyond.
We offer a free health check with our vets at Indooroopilly, Browns Plains, Jindalee or Chermside vet clinic after you’ve adopted your dog and every dog in our care is up to date with all vet work.
We have many dogs that are in foster care and are not yet ready to be listed for a variety of reasons. If you have a good idea of what you are looking for in your new dog please email us at chihuahuarescueqld@gmail.com and let us help you match a dog to your needs.
