Louie ~ Staghound X (On Trial 22/12/15)

Louie is a 1 year old male Staghound X. He is a medium-sized dog who really believes he is a lap dog. He has the most gorgeous brown eyes and when he looks at you your heart instantly melts. Louie loves to spend time with both his human family and his two doggie ‘sisters’. He even gets on well with the grumpy old cat that usually hates all dogs. Louie was also living happily with a rabbit and chickens before coming into care.

Louie will follow you around the yard or house and is always willing to lend a hand at whatever you are doing. He’s a very quick learner and is able to follow the basic commands sit, stay, come and will wait for his food (for a few seconds anyway). Louie walks very well on lead and is not dog reactive. He waits eagerly each morning to go for his daily outing. Louie is house trained and is able to use a dog door to go outside when needed.

Louie is an extremely affectionate boy who loves to have a cuddle. He will lay quietly on the lounge with his head resting in your lap or on his mat on the floor snuggling a toy. Louie is very well behaved indoors and his new family will need to allow him some indoor time so that he feels a part of the family.

Louie has been sleeping indoors but is also happy sleeping outdoors on the back deck. He has a kennel and trampoline bed and loves to remodel the kennel by pulling all the bedding out to lay on it.

When Louie came into care he was 10 months old and was suffering from severe malnutrition. Even though he had had a difficult start to life he was still the most loving and affectionate boy. Everyone that has met Louie has fallen deeply in love with him. He has a face that just makes you want to say ‘Ahh…’

It has taken Louie some time to regain his strength and he is now starting to enjoy the puppyhood that he had been denied. He has learnt to play fetch and spends a lot of the day playing with toys (He LOVES toys!) or with his Labrador sister. Louie is now growing into his long, lanky legs but still looks quite gangly when romping in the backyard. With a high quality diet Louie has put on weight and grown in height. The Vet has given him a clean bill of health and said that he is now in perfect condition.
Louie’s new family will need to be prepared to spend time preparing meals for him as he can be a little fussy. He does not eat dry food unless it is disguised in gravy and he will refuse tin food. This may be a result of his past experiences. He does however adore fresh meat, brown rice, pasta and vegetables as well as sardines and tuna.

Louie is looking for a family that will love and cherish him but is also prepared to spend the time training him so that he continues to have good manners. He isn’t a jumper and only barks when he wants the other dogs to play or when he is wrestling with a toy. Louie does however ‘Talk’ to you, which is quite funny to us but he is very serious about his conversations.

Louie’s perfect family is one that is ready to receive and give a lot of love. He would suit a single person looking for a best friend, a couple or a family with older children. He would like to have a backyard where he can run and play and be able to go for daily walks and outings with his family.

Louie will require a VERY special forever home as he is one exceptionally special boy!
