River ~ Sheltie (On Trial 15/2/16)

River is a gorgeous 8 year old, male, Sheltie (Shetland Sheepdog) cross with a sweet and gentle nature who is looking for someone to love. He came to Dog Rescue Newcastle after being severely neglected by his previous owners. He still bears some of the physical scars of his past, but despite this he has become a healthy and loving companion.

River does not like to be left alone for long periods of time so would be best suited to someone who is semi-retired, retired or works from home. He lives for human affection and can become stressed when his family leave him behind.

He is happy to join in with your social activities and loves to ride in the car. He is not super confident in every situation and will look to you for guidance. River really looks forward to his daily walks and is relaxed on the lead, preferring to be close to his human.

He is reserved around small children and gets on very well with his doggie housemates. River has suffered no long term health effects from his neglect and is not food aggressive. He will use the doggie door to let himself out to toilet. He can sit and shake hands. River is intelligent and would benefit greatly from some positive reinforcement training.

River’s gorgeous coat will require regular brushing and bathing to keep him comfortable and looking his most handsome. River is an inside dog and needs to be allowed access to come inside at all times and especially to sleep inside.

River wants nothing more than to be loved and will reward you with his complete devotion.
