About Benny ~ Rotti x Lab (trial 19/12/15)
Introducing 3yo Benny or Big Ben as he is sometimes called, a Rottweiler X Lab who is looking for his perfect home. He is a goofy soul, a laid back fellow and an all round legend.
He can sit, shake, come, wait and stay. Loves fetch and all balls games including soccer and football. Enjoys all water play including beach, will swim in big waves and fetch balls as far as his eyes can see. Dog friendly out and about (fine in off leash areas) though can sometimes be dominating and needs to be redirected firmly ("leave it") away from other dominating dogs quickly.
Benny is good on the lead and thoroughly enjoys a walk. It is a real pleasure to take this boy on a stroll thanks to the use of a Halti harness that is especially designed for big strong dogs.
He loves the indoors and the outdoors as well so he will need to go to a home where he is welcome to interact with the family in both spaces. When he is in the great outdoors he enjoys chewing a bone in the sun or taking a dip in his shell pool. Indoors he can be found ready and waiting for a snuggle.
He is not a barker at all but does let our one or two barks from time to time when out in the yard. He has done some good manners training and follows instructions well. Unfortunately he has ‘big dope syndrome” and doesn’t seem to have any road sense. Perhaps he thinks cars are just toys, so if not kept in check he will just walk on out without a thought. For this reason he will need 5 ft fences just to keep him safe. He is not a jumper but given he is a big boy a 4ft fence is too low for him.
He prefers the company of other laid back, non-dominant dogs. He is not a fan of dogs that get in his face trying to engage in play all the time as this can be annoying and upset his Zen approach to life.
If you feel you can offer Benny a loving forever home where he can spend the rest of his days then please email renlou1980@gmail.com. He is in foster care in Merewether and is available for adoption locally and interstate.
Benny’s adoption fee is $350. He is microchipped, vaccinated, desexed, flea and worm treated and comes with lifetime registration.
Medical notes
Diet of chicken and sensitive kibble to help with his sensitive skin. Happy and healthy.
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
