About Thorn ~ Border Collie x Lab Pup (trial 29/11/15)
Introducing handsome Thorn, a stunning 9 week old Border Collie x Labrador puppy.
Thorn is a timid boy but he is learning to trust humans and is coming out of his shell with people he is familiar with. As his confidence grows his personality shines and he can be quite the funny little character. He will come up to you for a cuddle when he feels like it and is a great little snuggler. He loves to play with his fur siblings as well as his big foster sisters who adore him. As the only boy in his foster home with 4 female dogs he is a little out-numbered but he takes it all in his stride.
He is inquisitive and likes to ensure he knows what everyone else is doing, just in case it is interesting. When he is not exploring he can be found playing or napping and is a calm boy.
As he is a puppy he is too young to be left alone for long periods. He needs to go to a home where he is welcome inside and to be a part of the family.
Due to his breed he is capable of jumping and climbing so he will need 6ft colourbond fences to ensure his safety. If he is going to a rural home we will need to assess the fencing there also to ensure he is safe.
Because he is still young he is learning the art of toilet training. It is important to set up a routine and ensure he goes out regularly to avoid accidents. Along with toilet training he is also learning basic commands. We would recommend puppy pre-school to continue his training as this will give him the best chance.
He is not yet desexed due to his age, therefore he is only available for adoption in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast and Port Stephens. He will need to be returned to one of our approved vets in those regions for his 2nd vaccination and his desexing. Thorn will remain registered to Dog Rescue Newcastle until he has officially been desexed. His new adopter is responsible for booking and paying for his third vaccination and this is a good opportunity to introduce him to the vet you plan to use in the future.
If you feel you can offer Thorn a loving forever home please email renlou1980@gmail.com to register your interest. He is currently in foster care in Lochinvar (near Maitland). His adoption fee is $600 and this covers his desexing, first two vaccinations and lifetime registration. He is also flea and worm treated.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
