About Sylvester
SYLVESTER
Meet Sylvester! He is a lovely 1 year old cat who came in to the RSPCA in mid July. Sylvester was paralysed in the back legs and had a large cut through the muscles that run along his spinal column. It is unknown what happened to him. Despite these significant and very painful injuries he was purring and very relaxed.
His owner could not afford treatment so surrendered Sylvester to the RSPCA. We took him to surgery and repaired the laceration to his muscles. Over the next few weeks we had to express Sylvester's bladder manually several times a day as he could neither stand nor empty his own bladder. After a few weeks one of the vets at the RSPCA took Sylvester home to foster. He has gradually improved and is now able to walk (with a limp!) jump a bit urinate and defecate on his own. Throughout the whole ordeal he has tolerated all his treatments without complaint and has become a clinic favourite.
Sylvester is now ready for his next home. He still needs ongoing care and treatment; it is likely this will continue to be needed for another few months. This involves daily massage of his scarred and contracted muscles and oral medication to help relieve his pain and discomfort. He will also need to be re-checked by our vets occasionally to ensure that he continues to improve. We would also recommend that he stays inside - he cannot easily run away from predators or defend himself. While Sylvester may never recover 100% from his injuries we are confident he can have a full and happy life.
If you think you are the right person to be Sylvester's new owner please contact the RSPCA NSW. Thanks for reading!
