Benji - Young Bull Arab X (On Trial 21/12/15)

“Hey I’m looking at you! Yes you! Benji’s the name and I might be deaf but I’m not dumb! In fact my foster mum thinks I’m incredibly smart AND handsome and I just can’t disagree about either of those facts! What I lack in hearing, I certainly make up with seeing, feeling, tasting and smelling. My foster mum is even teaching me sign language so I know exactly what she wants me to do. So far I can do sit, stay,come, and I know when she’s saying hello to me because she has a great big smile and waves BOTH her hands at me, it makes me smile too! Oh yeah, there’s that other one – “no” – yeah yeah, I know I have to stop what I’m doing when she does that one!

So you’re probably wondering how I got deaf, well I was just born like this but I don’t mind a silent world, in fact it can be pretty good at times! Like when it’s a bit cold, I like to curl up next to the clothes dryer when it’s on, but the bonus is I can’t hear any noise! Also when foster mum’s alarm goes off in the morning – guess who doesn’t wake up?! Ha ha yep that’s right, me, I just keep snoozing til I’m good and ready to wake up. I don’t get scared by loud noises either and screaming kids, well I’ve never heard of such a thing! Some of my favourite things are going for a walk on the lead, running under the sprinkler with my foster brothers, playing chasies with them around the backyard, I’ve even been to the lake and I loved following them in for a swim! My absolute favourite
thing is having lots of cuddles with my foster mum. Speaking of which, I think she wants to tell you some more awesome things about me!”

Wow, Benji is one confident young boy isn’t he! He does remarkably well for a pup with no hearing and since he came into foster care with me he has just slotted right in with my other two dogs, he’s actually no trouble at all and no extra work than a dog with hearing! The one thing I have noticed about Benji is that he likes to keep me within eyesight unless he’s playing with my other dogs. He looks to me for signs and is very responsive. For this reason, Benji needs to go to a home with
another dog or at the very least, someone who is at home each day and willing to continue with his sign language training. He would not thrive being an only dog with working parents.

Benji is a 6mth old Bull Arab x and he will grow to be a large size dog – just check out those paws! He is completely housetrained and sleeps right through the night. He prefers to sleep in the same room as me but has also slept in the room beside me with my other dogs and coped just fine. He would not be suited to sleeping outside on his own. Benji can be quite active, he loves playing rough with my bigger dogs and is remarkably springy for a large breed dog, he can already easily jump on top of something 3ft high. Therefore he will require secure fencing of 6ft. Benji would love his new family to take him to puppy training where he can continue to learn basic manners like not jumping and lengthening his stays. Benji isn’t a fussy eater, he eats kibble for breakfast and dinner is rice, vegies and mince. He has been introduced to some new foods which he has taken to such as apples, bananas, yogurt, vegemite and of course peanut butter!
