About Rocky ~ Lab X (on trial 8/03/16)
This is Rocky, he is quite a smaller-sized 5 year old, male, Labrador cross. His mum was a pure bred Labrador and he has all the lovely traits and characteristics of a lab, just in a more compact form.
He is a very sweet boy and loves affection, especially a tummy scratch. Rocky had no trouble getting along with his new foster sister (an older female lab) and likes to play and chase her around the yard. However, he seems to prefer human company and likes any attention and being close to you. He will happily lay at your feet or near you and make an excellent companion dog.
Rocky is a little round around the tummy and would benefit from some regular exercise and a good diet but don’t let his size and shape fool you - this boy can jump if he wants to so his new home will need proper secure fencing.
During recent thunderstorms he seemed to get a little nervous and looked for some company and a reassuring pat. If left alone outside he may try to escape if scared, bored or lonely.
Rocky is an outdoor & indoor dog, which means he likes going for bush walks and swimming, but also likes being inside lazing around on his bed. He will sleep inside all night without any accidents too.
Rocky walks well on a lead, but can tend to be a little overexcited at first. He will need more training in this area but should learn quickly.
Playing fetch or chasing balls do not interest Rocky much at all, however he does like to chase birds in the yard. He has also chased a car or two so it is very important to give this area some attention and a little more training. Because of this, Rocky may suit only older children or a stronger person to take him on walks especially in busy areas as he is quite strong.
He waits patiently to be fed and only eats when given the command. He will sit, shake hands and is very gentle when taking treats from your hand too. He will get into the car on command and travels very well.
If you think you have a loving forever home for Rocky, please contact Niki by either phone 0421 834 734 or email nikiliz2208@gmail.com. Rocky is in foster care in New Lambton (Newcastle NSW) and is available for adoption interstate.
Rocky's adoption fee is $300 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
