ABOUT SOOTY
Sooty is a very quiet and sensitive old man who is shy at first but warms up quickly to people (especially when these prepare delicious meals for him) Sooty loves his food (raw or home cooking), the couch, the human bed, people, gentle cuddles, a good scratch and short evening walks. He likes people and is okay with other dogs small and large as long as they are calm and not too energetic. According to his old owners he is scared of cats and birds and doesn't like to be alone.
We haven't heard any barking or crying when leaving him alone but do think he would prefer a home with someone home more often than not, as he loves human company and does a big happy dance when we come home. He is housetrained but used to having unrestricted access to the garden. A fence is required as otherwise he might decide to take himself for a walk down the street.
Due to his age and low energy level we think small children would stress him too much so would prefer a home with no or older children only. Sooty sleeps a lot, doesn't seem to play but does enjoy a short daily walk. He enjoys being rubbed dry after a warm bath, giving you kisses and sleeping next to you on the couch.
Sooty/s skin is very sensitive and he needs regular bathing with special shampoos (ie. oatmeal/aloe vera/other medicated shampoos). In spring his skin becomes very irritated and dry which will require ongoing yearly medical care. Currently he is being treated successfully with cortisone/antihistamine tablets.
