Jack ~ Friendly Senior (On Trial 2/1/16)

Introducing our gorgeous senior chap Jack! Jack is a peppy gentleman with a spring in his step that belies his age of 11 years. Being a senior Jack is level headed, low-maintenance and is proof that you get better looking as you get older, right Jack? DRN supporters may remember Jack from the senior pair “Jack and Jill” that we rescued from a rural pound earlier in the year. Jack’s beautiful partner Jill was 19 years old, yes, that’s right, 19 years old! Jill spent an amazing 4 months in foster care and has recently passed away surrounded by the love of her foster family. Since Jill’s passing, Jack is now looking for his own furever home to spend his senior years surrounded by love after the loss of his lifelong pal Jill.

Jack is full of fun and life! Even at 11 years he has a lot more get-up-and-go under the hood so he’ll be a loyal and loving companion for a number of years yet to come. He’s a mixture of various breeds - depending on which angle you look at him he can look like very different breeds – he’s a little bit like a chameleon! He is quite leggy so sometimes looks like he has a bit of greyhound in him, or even mastiff, boxer, or a variety of other bully breeds - your guess is as good as ours!

Jack is a medium size boy (27kg and 58cm to top of shoulders), slightly smaller than his 5 year old Labrador foster brother whom he gets on very well with. He used to be unsure of visiting dogs when he first came into foster care, but after understanding that the visiting male dogs were just trying to be friends, he is far more settled now and they get on very well. We think Jack may not have been exposed to many dogs before coming into care as he can confuse rough play for aggression. He is best suited to adult dogs like himself who will play, but not be too rough for him.

Jack gets on well with humans of all ages and sizes, he’s friendly with both men and women. He also loves attention from his foster carers’ grandchildren - he has very good manners when playing with them and loves cuddles and pats. He is in foster care on acreage with rural fencing which he doesn’t jump. So as long as you have fencing of about 4.5-5 feet high he will be kept safe and out of harm’s way. He is quite happy to be outside most of the time - he loves sleeping in his kennel or soft pod-bed depending on the season. If you invite him inside to hang out with his family he is very well behaved when inside. He is currently in care with chickens in a separate yard and he takes no notice of them. He likes possums and cats a little too much, so he is best in a home without them.

Jack is very easy going and adaptable – he would fit into most home environments as he just wants to feel loved and secure. The highlight of his day is his morning walk in the bush followed by a yummy bone and then a well-earned sleep. He always has a happy grin on his face and a tail wag to welcome you home whenever you’ve been out.
