About Arnhem
Arnhem is one of several dozen dogs rescued from a hoarder in Darwin. The dogs have bred continuously for years and have been kept in a hot tin shed with little exposure to the outside world. The team from Top End Rehoming Group rescued the dogs and contacted us to help as they were all chihuahuas. We have flown a dozen of these little chihuahuas to Brisbane from Darwin.
Arnhem has so much character, he has a huge overbite which gives him a very cute little expression and he resembles the famous chihuahua "Tuna" who has inspired many memes and has such a huge following. We hope that Arnhem will find a home that loves him just as much!
Despite their difficult upbringing, these dogs are incredibly sweet. Being only a puppy, Arnhem has endured less suffering than some of the older dogs. Whilst most of the dogs from the Darwin rescue like to be with other dogs, Arnhem actually prefers to be an only dog, so he would do best in a home where he can be the center of attention. If he goes to a home with ther dogs, best to be a calm female who is not too bossy.
Arnhem finds loud noises scary so wouldn't cope very well in a noisy, busy home. He is so loyal and loving, but bonds strongly to those he trusts and would do best in a home without toddlers and noisy children. He does like to play and once he trusts you, he just loves being in your lap or snuggled up close.
All of the Darwin dogs are shy when you first meet them, but once they have bonded to you they are the most loyal and devoted little dogs. Despite being fearful at first, not one of them has ever shown any signs of aggression and they don't snap even when terrified. This is testament to their beautiful natures despite their past.
Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heart worm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
Adoption details
The first step to adopting a dog from us is to fill out an expression of interest form.
We encourage you to provide as much detail as possible about your family and your home as this helps us make sure we match you with the most suitable dog.
This form can be found at the following address:
http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/Kczrs885x4lq3N9u4mQhca
Please note: we do not organise any meet and greet without a completed expression of interest form.
Our adoption process involves:
1) Completing online application form
2) Arranging a meet and greet with the dogs foster carer, after which we ask you to take 24 hours to make a decision about whether you want to adopt this dog
3) A brief home visit and yard check from one of our volunteers
4) Adoption trial spanning four weeks.
We ask that you pay the dogs adoption fee at the beginning of the adoption trial, however this will be refunded if for any reason the dog is not working out in your home within the four week period. We offer a four week adoption trial to make sure that you have plenty of time for your new dog to settle into your home and so we can offer you full support during this period and beyond.
We offer a free health check with our vets at Indooroopilly or Chermside vet clinic after you’ve adopted your dog and every dog in our care is up to date with all vet work.
We have many dogs that are in foster care and are not yet ready to be listed for a variety of reasons. If you have a good idea of what you are looking for in your new dog please email us at chihuahuarescueqld@gmail.com and let us help you match a dog to your needs.
