About Tiwi
Hi my name is Tiwi and I am a sweet 2 year old Chihuahua. I am one of several dozen dogs rescued from a hoarder in Darwin. We were bred continuously for years and confined to a hot tin shed. We have had minimal human contact as well as little exposure to the outside world.
The team from Top End Rehoming Group saved our live then contacted the lovely people of CRQ to lend a hand. Next thing I knew I was being flown from Darwin to Brisbane for my new beginning along with dozens of others that were rescued with me to.
Even though I have been through such a traumatic experience in my young life I try not to let that affect me however sometime I can be a bit frightened. Loud and sudden noises can scare me and I go running off into the next room. I am very unsure of new things at first bit with positive reassurance ant patience I am okay. I may have been through a lot but I am sweet, kind and loving. I have no aggression in me.
I love to follow around my foster carer and have taken a liking to her teenage son. He and I are great mates. Im not going to lie, I’m a kisser. I just love to kiss you or anything to do with you all the time. I am still weary of being left alone now that I know what human company is like so I do not like to venture much outside by myself. Whilst I am dog friendly I am very interested in my 5 foster cat siblings.
I am a loving, quiet and sweet dog who just wants to love and please. If you think I fit into your family please contact the lovely people at Chihuahua Rescue QLD.
Love Tiwi xx
All of the Darwin dogs are shy when you first meet them, but once they have bonded to you they are the most loyal and devoted little dogs. Despite being fearful at first, not one of them has ever shown any signs of aggression and they don't snap even when terrified. This is testament to their beautiful natures despite their past.
Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heart worm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
Adoption details
The first step to adopting a dog from us is to fill out an expression of interest form.
We encourage you to provide as much detail as possible about your family and your home as this helps us make sure we match you with the most suitable dog.
This form can be found at the following address:
http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/Kczrs885x4lq3N9u4mQhca
Please note: we do not organise any meet and greet without a completed expression of interest form.
Our adoption process involves:
1) Completing online application form
2) Arranging a meet and greet with the dogs foster carer, after which we ask you to take 24 hours to make a decision about whether you want to adopt this dog
3) A brief home visit and yard check from one of our volunteers
4) Adoption trial spanning four weeks.
We ask that you pay the dogs adoption fee at the beginning of the adoption trial, however this will be refunded if for any reason the dog is not working out in your home within the four week period. We offer a four week adoption trial to make sure that you have plenty of time for your new dog to settle into your home and so we can offer you full support during this period and beyond.
We offer a free health check with our vets at Indooroopilly or Chermside vet clinic after you’ve adopted your dog and every dog in our care is up to date with all vet work.
We have many dogs that are in foster care and are not yet ready to be listed for a variety of reasons. If you have a good idea of what you are looking for in your new dog please email us at chihuahuarescueqld@gmail.com and let us help you match a dog to your needs.
