About Toddy (Adoption Pending)
Toddy is such a lovely and sweet dog. He came to us from Townsville as he tested positive to Heartworm whilst impounded in the shelter up there. Heartworm treatment is costly and takes many months, so we flew him down to Brisbane where he could be treated.
Toddy is very cuddly and affectionate. He loves to play and gets along great with other dogs. He is good with kids and everyone he meets.
Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heart worm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
We have already completed the expensive part of Toddy's vet treatment including the horrible and painful injections to kill the heartworm. He has spent many nights in hospital in intensive care being monitored by our vet team. He will be ready to be adopted in November.
Toddy is morbidly obese which has been a struggle to overcome due to the steroids he has been on for his heartworm as well as the lack of activity he has had to endure as part of his treatment plan. Toddy's new owner must continue to help him lose weight as he needs to lose about 30% of his body weight.
Toddy has one smaller eye which he saw the eye specialist for. Unfortunately it is the result of a previous injury that wasn't treated and he has no vision in that eye. It is not bothering him so at this stage there is no need to remove it.
Toddy will need to remain on heartgard chews once per month for a full year and we will supply a box of these to his adoption family.
Adoption details
The first step to adopting a dog from us is to fill out an expression of interest form.
We encourage you to provide as much detail as possible about your family and your home as this helps us make sure we match you with the most suitable dog.
This form can be found at the following address:
http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/Kczrs885x4lq3N9u4mQhca
Please note: we do not organise any meet and greet without a completed expression of interest form.
Our adoption process involves:
1) Completing online application form
2) Arranging a meet and greet with the dogs foster carer, after which we ask you to take 24 hours to make a decision about whether you want to adopt this dog
3) A brief home visit and yard check from one of our volunteers
4) Adoption trial spanning four weeks.
We ask that you pay the dogs adoption fee at the beginning of the adoption trial, however this will be refunded if for any reason the dog is not working out in your home within the four week period. We offer a four week adoption trial to make sure that you have plenty of time for your new dog to settle into your home and so we can offer you full support during this period and beyond.
We offer a free health check with our vets at Indooroopilly or Chermside vet clinic after you’ve adopted your dog and every dog in our care is up to date with all vet work.
We have many dogs that are in foster care and are not yet ready to be listed for a variety of reasons. If you have a good idea of what you are looking for in your new dog please email us at chihuahuarescueqld@gmail.com and let us help you match a dog to your needs.
