About Sebastian
Sebastian is one of the most well known Chihuahuas in Queensland at the moment. He was rescued in the most unimaginable condition and was emaciated, missing most his fur with rotting teeth, terrible arthritis and missing one of his hind feet. His condition was shocking and in days we managed to raise the thousands of dollars needed to start to treat his many medical conditions. Many thought that he was too far gone to save, but everyone who met Sebastian understood why we fought hard for him. Despite his horrific condition, he was cheeky, outgoing and affectionate.
Sebastian is tiny - he was 1.5kg when rescued and now weighs about 2kg. He has so much attitude, he'll yap at you when he wants to be picked up, loves his food and thinks he is much bigger then the Golden Retrievers he lives with.
Sebastian is so cuddly and would love to be in your arms the whole time. The home we are looking for Sebastian is one where he will have a lot of company, he hates being alone. He needs a home without stairs, or with minimal stairs and a family willing to carry him up and down. He lives in harmony with other dogs and cats and is gentle and loving towards children however due to his delicate nature he is not suitable for young children.
Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heart worm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
Sebastian has undergone several thousand dollars of medical treatment. His medical needs will be discussed at length with the family who adopts him. Whilst we have been able to remove his tumour and rotten teeth and his hair has all grown back, there are some things about Sebastian that we can not repair due to the many years of neglect.
Sebastian has no teeth, severely luxating patellas that can't be surgically repaired, he is missing a foot and has bladder stones that our vet has recommended not be removed as they are causing no issues and we don't believe he should undergo a fourth surgery in such a small period of time. He has undergone so much already.
Sebastian has very sensitive skin and he regularly flairs up. He needs an owner who is 100% to bathing him with medicated washes every week, and who will stay on top of his skin care and is willing to take him in for frequent vet visits to keep him comfortable.
Adoption details
The first step to adopting a dog from us is to fill out an expression of interest form.
We encourage you to provide as much detail as possible about your family and your home as this helps us make sure we match you with the most suitable dog.
This form can be found at the following address:
http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/Kczrs885x4lq3N9u4mQhca
Please note: we do not organise any meet and greet without a completed expression of interest form.
Our adoption process involves:
1) Completing online application form
2) Arranging a meet and greet with the dogs foster carer, after which we ask you to take 24 hours to make a decision about whether you want to adopt this dog
3) A brief home visit and yard check from one of our volunteers
4) Adoption trial spanning four weeks.
We ask that you pay the dogs adoption fee at the beginning of the adoption trial, however this will be refunded if for any reason the dog is not working out in your home within the four week period. We offer a four week adoption trial to make sure that you have plenty of time for your new dog to settle into your home and so we can offer you full support during this period and beyond.
We offer a free health check with our vets at Indooroopilly or Chermside vet clinic after you’ve adopted your dog and every dog in our care is up to date with all vet work.
We have many dogs that are in foster care and are not yet ready to be listed for a variety of reasons. If you have a good idea of what you are looking for in your new dog please email us at chihuahuarescueqld@gmail.com and let us help you match a dog to your needs.
