About Maverick ~ Kelpie (On Trial 28/10/17)
Maverick is a delightful 2.5 year old handsome boy with a beautiful black shiny coat and tanned paws. He weighs just 22klgs and has a lean look about him.
Maverick’s coat is very low maintenance, needing bathing only when necessary and the occasional brush.
Maverick appears to have no allergies, eats most anything – though not a huge eater. Loves to chew on anything eg. rawhide, bones, chicken necks, drumsticks, dentastix etc.
He is housetrained & sleeps indoors-though not necessarily in the main section of the home.
Although Maverick is a Kelpie he does enjoy a good old snuggle on the lounge. Maverick would be fine in a smaller yard as long as his family would be willing to take him out for walks.
He is great with people and children, though tends to become very excited with his greetings (nothing that a little continued training would not address). Maverick is not suited to someone with cats, as he tends to chase them.
He obeys basic commands; sit, stay, shake hands, drop and NO. He likes to play “Red-Rover” and he adores his toys and plays with them endlessly. He returns when called – though sometimes gets distracted, when he is playing with other dogs and he walks well on the lead.
He is able to be left alone and does not fret or escape, but definitely needs plenty of toys so that he does not become bored. He travels well in the car and he doesn't mind being buckled in for safety.
He really loves attention and to share a game & thrives on plenty of exercise. But after a good walk and a play in the yard be prepared for the "lounge lizard " in Maverick to shine through, he just loves to kick back and relax with his human.
This energetic loving boy needs someone who is ready for a new best friend who just wants to be with them every chance he can. He needs affection and time and/or another canine friend, gets along great and loves playing with his Kelpie foster brother. Would be great with another dog or is still great on his own as long as he gets lots of time with people.
I am sure with continued training and a home of his own, whether it be on the farm or in the suburbs, you will find him to be an affectionate, helpful, intelligent family dog.
For more information or to meet Maverick, please contact his foster carer Josh via josh.gralton@hotmail.com. Maverick is in foster care in Aberdare, NSW near Cessnock and is available for adoption interstate.
Maverick's adoption fee is $450 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
