Filbert

Hi there! I'm Filbert and yes, I'm a ridiculously cute ball of fluff. I will grow up into a handsome, stunning cat who will be the envy of all your friends. I am going to be a very long-haired boy so lets get it out of the way now - you will need to be willing to groom me regularly to keep me looking tip-top. I am a very sweet little boy who is bursting with the desire to learn to trust you and make you my very best friend. I was caught in a trap on a large rural property and I have been staying in foster care for the past 6 weeks, learning what it's like to live somewhere safe with a reliable food source. I have been sick with the 'flu and my foster mum has taken very good care of me but I'm all recovered now and ready to find my forever home.
I won't beat around the bush - I'm a very very nervous little guy. Because the first 3 months of my life were spent on my own living in the open and not in contact with people, I do find humans pretty terrifying to begin with. I like to puff out my chest and give you a good old hiss because I think I'm big and tough - but really, do you think someone with a face like this can really frighten anybody?! It doesn't seem likely. It has taken me quite a number of weeks to make friends with my foster mum and even now I still get spooked if she moves too quickly or makes sudden loud noises. But I love to smooch and rub on her and I've finally discovered what purring is! So in my new home I will need to be living with a calm and quiet family with no small children. In the beginning, you will need to be prepared to keep me confined to a small room or area for at least a few weeks, so I don't panic and just find some where to hide. In the long run I will need to be an indoor cat if possible, as the big wide world will always be overwhelming for me and I may panic and get lost. I might not want you to touch me for a little while.
I know this all sounds off-putting, but here's the thing... it's so WORTH it! I have gorgeous soft fur and that aforementioned purr is just amazing. I SO badly want to be your best friend and I promise, once I do come to trust you I will be incredibly loyal and we will be buddies for life. The first time you see me relax enough to play with a toy or chase a spot of light across the floor you will just melt and will be so happy and proud. I have the cutest little meow that you will absolutely adore. And like I mentioned before, I'm stupidly cute and handsome. And I'm still a baby too.

If you have an existing cat I could get along well with him or her with a gradual introduction. I'm not really familiar with dogs but if you have a calm, cat-social dog I could learn to make friends. My friend Hazelnut came from the same property as me so if you are looking to get two cats, then perhaps you could adopt us together - we've not inseperable and I would do fine without her so don't feel bad separating us but if you did happen to want to cats who already get along, then we could be perfect.
