About Nanook
It is impossible not to fall in love with the bundle of energy that is Nanook! He is a beautiful soul and the most affectionate boy you will ever meet. While he has a few personal space issues - he doesn’t always know whether he wants you close or not – he is never aggressive or rough. He has had little exposure to children, so he will need gentle and gradual introduction to stop him being overwhelmed.
His three favourite things are walks, food and his family, not always in that order. Like any husky worth his salt, he is quite a chatty chappy. He loves to tell you about his day when you get home. And he loves to tell you how he’s looking forward to his dinner, and the walk you are about to embark on – he is just so excited about it all, he can’t contain himself! But he soon settles back down and makes a wonderful snuggle buddy.
His age and size is no indication of his energy. This boy is a machine! He has shown promise with a scooter and a bike, and is quick to pick up commands, so could make a great sled dog with the right training. He will need to walk at least an hour a day, with a run or maybe a cycle ride every now and then to release built up steam. He can pull quite hard on a leash, but he has had some specialist training which has improved things dramatically. This will be an ongoing exercise though, as he will ‘forget’ if you let him! Tennis courts have become a regular haunt to expend his energy quickly!
He is being taught manners and canine etiquette from his foster sister, as he was a bit short on both on his arrival. He has come a long way in learning how to read other dogs’ behaviour, but still needs a bit more socialisation as he can get a bit anxious around other dogs. He has already earned the nickname “Fun Police” as he can’t seem to decide if others are playing or fighting and tells them off!
Like most huskies, he has a high prey drive, so is not suitable for homes with cats or pocket pets. He also has an eye for sheep, so no livestock. Although he hasn’t tried to escape or jump, he will wander if he sees an opening. He hasn’t shown any signs of digging or destruction, but he likes to ‘kill’ his toys, so it is best to keep him stimulated. He would be best suited to a home with a laid back dog for companionship, or other company throughout the day. He is also used to being inside with the family and in the company of his malamute foster sister.
Medical notes
Nanook comes vet checked, desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and wormed & flea treated.
