About Tonka tuff Truck ~ On Trial 27/9/15
If you love your dogs big and boofy then Tonka Truck is the man for you! Like his name suggests Tonka is Tonka Truck tuff, he loves to play and he will be your kids' best mate to play with. Tonka is a 3 year old Boxer x Great Dane who is full of spunk and endless goofiness. This giant is also a big softie who will nudge your lap and your hand for pats and attention.
Tonka has been in foster care with a dozen other dogs of all sizes and ages and breeds and he gets on well with them all. Tonka’s joy in life is to meet people and other dogs. If other dogs won't play with him he will boxer 'talk' at them to convince them that he is their friend and he just wants to play. Tonka is not particularly coordinated and although he thinks he's agile when playing he'll tumble or slip over - he has a big goofy smile and lolling tongue that will make you laugh at his shenanigans!
Tonka is very social, he loves people of all ages and is great with children - he's very affectionate with kids and he's quite content to be bossed around and take part in kids games. His favourite spot in the house is an armchair or the lounge - he forgets he's a big boy and squeezes himself into a ball for a nap and a bit of TV. As per most men, Tonka likes to be in the armchair closest to the TV with the remote control in handy reach.
Due to his large size Tonka takes his role as guard dog very seriously - he will give a big bark to tell you if there are people close by your property. Despite his big bark his tail is wagging for attention! If you feel comforted by having a large dog around the house then Tonka will fulfil that role for you (then happily trot back to his spot on the lounge and fall asleep!). Tonka is a little too interested in cats and pocket pets like bunnies and chickens, so he is best suited to a home without them. \ He is not a fence jumper and therefore even pool style and height fencing is fine for him.
Tonka would suit a furever family with an existing friendly playful dog of any size as he would be a great companion for another pooch. He would also be a great addition to a family with children or an active couple or single person who will take him out walking or for a light run. Tonka loves men so he would also suit a single male who wants a best mate and companion. \ Tonka will benefit from a daily walk - due to his size (he's around 45-50kg) he's best walked on a front clipping harness or halti. With a consistent daily walk and routine he settles throughout the day and is content to hang and laze about. Although he's active, Tonka is actually quite lazy once he's worked off his initial goofy excitement. He's a good mix of energy and lay-about behaviour.
Tonka is used to sleeping in a covered veranda with his doggy playmates but he will happily sleep inside with his new furever family if it's on offer. Tonka has a short coat so he's very low maintenance when it comes to grooming. Come and meet this friendly big character, you won't be disappointed.

They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
