About Jasper
Hi my name is Jasper and I am a sweet little 11 month old.
Would you believe I am nearly 1 !!! Wow.. And all I want for my birthday is to be adopted. I can think of nothing better than to have a birthday party with my new family.
My story started out in a shelter in Alice Springs. The lovely staff there noticed that I had a condition called luxating patellas and needed surgery to help correct this. So I jumped on my first airplane and joined the CRQ family.
My foster mum describes me as incredibly social and sweet. I am super friendly and get along with dogs of all shapes and sizes as well as cats! I Love to play and do not let my condition slow me down!
I was booked in to have patella surgery , BUT sadly it could not go ahead. You see, the lovely vets found that my growth plates have not closed yet. This means they can't go ahead with the surgery until they have. Can you believe this will be at least another 6 months?..what a set back. . So the lovely CRQ team had a big chat and decided it wasn't fair for me to spend the next 6 mths in foster care.
SO THE BIG NEWS.. is I CAN be adopted NOW. Ypu don't have to wait.. Maybe it will be before my birthday..
But there is a catch.. Whoever adopts me has to agree to take me back to their vet to have the surgery next year. Now this means I will need a really special home because this surgery can cost $1000 - $1500.
So please think it through carefully and if you think you can provide me with a loving home AND surgery later, then please contact CRQ now.. I'd love to meet you
Love Jasper xo
Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heart worm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
Jasper has a very common hereditary problem in chihuahuas - he has luxating patellas, a condition where his kneecaps constantly dislocate. He was supposed to undergo surgical correction whilst in our care but his pre-surgery X-rays revealed that his growth plates have not closed yet.
Jasper will need this surgery in about 6-9 mths time once they have closed. This is a big undertaking for a new owner, as it could cost $1000-$1500. But this is a must. It is not fair to leave Jasper in foster care for 6 mths when he could be spending this time bonding to his forever family.
Adoption details
The first step to adopting a dog from us is to fill out an expression of interest form.
We encourage you to provide as much detail as possible about your family and your home as this helps us make sure we match you with the most suitable dog.
This form can be found at the following address:
http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/Kczrs885x4lq3N9u4mQhca
Please note: we do not organise any meet and greet without a completed expression of interest form.
Our adoption process involves:
1) Completing online application form
2) Arranging a meet and greet with the dogs foster carer, after which we ask you to take 24 hours to make a decision about whether you want to adopt this dog
3) A brief home visit and yard check from one of our volunteers
4) Adoption trial spanning four weeks.
We ask that you pay the dogs adoption fee at the beginning of the adoption trial, however this will be refunded if for any reason the dog is not working out in your home within the four week period. We offer a four week adoption trial to make sure that you have plenty of time for your new dog to settle into your home and so we can offer you full support during this period and beyond.
We offer a free health check with our vets at Indooroopilly or Chermside vet clinic after you’ve adopted your dog and every dog in our care is up to date with all vet work.
We have many dogs that are in foster care and are not yet ready to be listed for a variety of reasons. If you have a good idea of what you are looking for in your new dog please email us at chihuahuarescueqld@gmail.com and let us help you match a dog to your needs.
