“Weimaraner” is the vet’s best guess at the predominant mix in Jericho’s parentage, but whatever he is mixed with has given him not entirely a “typical” Weimaraner temperament.

Yes, he has a Weimaraner’s striking, pale eyes and low care coat. Yes, he has lots of energy and thrives on exercise and mental stimulation. Yes, he has a deep, booming bark, but we don’t get to hear that very often. Let’s be honest, he gets into mischief when he is bored, so if you’re looking for a dog who will sit peacefully by himself for long periods of time, Jerry is probably not the dog for you. Yes, he can get over-excited when you come home and is prone to jumping up to greet you. And we don’t know what he is like with cats. We recommend obedience training for all our young foster dogs as a matter of course, and for this big, beautiful boy, it’s extra-specially important. At approximately seven months of age, he is highly trainable and his high intelligence makes him even more so. He is now toilet trained in his foster home so should quickly learn the routine in his forever home.

Unlike what some sources say about Weimaraners, Jericho loves everyone, even strangers, and is always first in line for cuddles. He has an endearing way of gently leaning his body against you or burying his face under your arm (or – not so endearing – burying his face at crotch level if he can’t reach your armpit…). He has shown no sign of aggression to other dogs he has met and loves his foster brother. In fact, he can be just like a human little brother with his tricks and antics to get him to play. He’s developed some innovative tactics in tug-of-war, and invented a new game, called “I’ve saved up my chew treat until you’ve finished yours – now I’m going to wave it in your face until you chase me.” It’s not essential that he go to a household with another dog, but if you’re looking for a companion for a large breed dog of similar energy levels and playfulness, he would make a great fit.

That’s the long story. The short story is, Jericho’s ideal home is one where he will get lots of exercise, training, affection and company.And in return, he will give you all the love and affection - and entertainment - you could ever want from a canine companion.
