About Rippa
Other dogs
He is a gentle giant and is usually social and playful. He is likely to get scared if a boisterous dog rushes into his space and will bark to tell them to back off. Folks familiar with this breed will understand this is normal.
Cats
Yes with caution. Rippa has been around a cat but only associated through a fly screen. He was just curious.
Kids
Yes, but might accidentally knock one over.
Size
Approx 60 kgs (still growing)
Exercise requirements
Medium - playful and energetic. Rippa is always excited to see you and loves a home-coming. He will settle quickly.
How is your dog on a lead?
Ok unless sees something exciting and then can be hard to manage. He is well behaved and will heal on command. A halti while walking him works best at the moment.
How is the dog off the lead?
Sometimes good. Sometimes bad. Rippa just wants to sniff and enjoy his walks. If there is something particularly interesting he might pretend not to hear you when you call.
Escape artist
No. But if you leave a gate open he might meander off with curiosity.
Nuisance barker or destructive?
No. But when he barks it can be intimidating – loud and deep. While he may act as an alert dog he is likely to show an intruder to the silver cabinet.
Toilet trained
Yes
Tolerance to being alone
Rippa will be a good boy when left alone. However, he will be sad and fret. For his one sake preference will be given to folks who have another dog for company or are home more often than not.
Likes
Being with his special human friends. He loves attention, walks, car rides, and food.
Dislikes
Rippa is a gentle giant. He is actually afraid of other dogs that are boisterous or rush into his space unannounced. This is normal for this breed. He also dislikes the hose or anything that startles him.
Ideal home
He needs a home where he will be a central focus because he is very affectionate, warm and loving. \ You will also need to be strong enough to control him when and if he gets excited. You do not need to have a large yard as long as he has access to alternatives.
Generally
Rippa is a gentle soul in a scary body. He is very people orientated and loves nothing more than to follow you around all day. Rippa will be your loyal shadow and despite his size, he is rather unobtrusive. If you ignore him for long periods of time he won’t object, but merely fret and be sad.

Adoption details
1) Read the dog's profile
2) Complete the expression of Interest form
http://www.dogadoption.org.au/adoption---expression-of-interest.html
3) Speak to the carer and arrange a meeting
4) House assessment is completed
5) Adoption is completed with a minimum 2 week cooling off period (similar to a trial but with legal protection)
We strongly recommend you read the dogs' profile carefully as everything we know about the dog/s is listed.
If you are interested in a dog we invite you to submit an application form so we can learn more about your circumstances. This is to ensure we match the right dog to the best home. (one form per family - not per dog) http://www.dogadoption.org.au/adoption---expression-of-interest.html
This is for the benefit of both the dog and the potential new owner/s. It also saves time and uses limited resources more effectively.
Once the essential criteria is confirmed we put you in touch with the carer for a more detailed chat with a view of meeting the dog/s.
If you decide to proceed with the adoption we make a time for a house check.
The adoption fee is then paid (there is a 2 week cooling off period.) Please note we do not usually allow trials.
Foster carers are also able to adopt foster dogs once approved.
