Gizmo ~ Shih Tzu X Maltese (on trial 11/8/15)

Gizmo is a young 3 year old 8.3kg male dog listed as a Shih Tzu/Maltese X but we’re pretty sure there is Pomeranian in the mix. He has a very silky, longish, low shedding coat which only requires a comb every couple of days. He is a very affectionate and intelligent dog and wants to be involved in everything we do. He is inquisitive, but has not chewed anything including our shoes left outside. He gets on well with our small dog loving to play chase and wrestle. They sleep together in the laundry and quite often share the same bed. He is house trained and is learning to use the pet door.

When we took him to the vet for his vaccinations and check-up he very quietly approached the vet’s resident cat and made instant friends with him so we assume he is cat friendly!!!

He is very much a lap dog and loves to sit on our laps when we are watching TV and give us lots of licks and kisses or just snuggles in and has a snooze.

Gizmo loves to go for walks and gets quite excited when we pick up his lead. He is learning to sit to have his lead put on. He walks very well on lead. He generally gets on well with small dogs we meet but is very wary of large dogs and barks at them. He ignores dogs which bark at us from behind their fences.

He responds to his name and comes when called. He is generally quiet but lets us know if someone approaches our house. He will make a good watch dog – he has a deep bark. When left alone with our dog he remains quiet.

Gizmo quickly settled down with us and now considers this his home and when let off the lead runs up to our gate to be let in when we return from our walks. He has never tried to escape and has not dug any holes.
Gizmo is wary when meeting small children so would not be suitable for families with young children. He would make an ideal companion for an active retiree[s] or a family with older children.
