About Gatsby - 3 legs! *On Trial in His New Home*
*GATSBY IS CURRENTLY TRIALING HIS NEW HOME - NO MORE ENQUIRIES/APPLICATIONS PLEASE* Ladies and Gentlemen! Introducing The Great Gatsby with his stunning golden eyes which will surely melt your heart! He’s a loving, brave dog who’s been through a lot in his short life though he’s adjusting fabulously to life on 3 legs making us very proud! So now all Gatsby needs is a forever home who’ll adore him as much as we do; will it be with you???
This loveable young fella came to us via a rural animal shelter as a 5-6 month old pup. He was very emaciated and covered in fleas and bush ticks which his foster carer painstakingly removed while Gatsby lapped up the attention. He was settling in well into foster care when in late February his carer noticed he was quite lame in his rear leg so upon a visit to our vet an x-ray was taken and he was diagnosed with Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease which involves spontaneous decay of the head on the femur bone resulting in degeneration of the hip joint, so emergency surgery was performed to excise the affected femur bone head and neck.
Four months down the track, while undergoing rehabilitation, poor Gatsby accidentally broke the offending leg while playing with his carer’s Rottweiler and another SARG pup (have we mentioned he LOVES other dogs??), so it was decided that due to the weakness of the leg amputation would be best…..and Gatsby hasn’t looked back, taking to his new 3 legged life like it has always been that way!

Gorgeous Gatsby has a lovely, calm, mellow nature and he absolutely adores humans and thrives on being around them – he’s one of those tactile dogs who like to have their head on your lap if you’re sitting together though in saying that he’s not at all “in your face” or licky. He grew up with a cat so isn’t bothered by them and he loves dogs of all shapes and sizes and will happily play with them or just lie around with them soaking up the winter sunshine.
Gatsby is learning to walk on a lead again and his carer uses a Gentle Leader. He sits nicely when being given a treat which he takes fairly gently though he does tend to “hoover” his food so a scoff bowl or similar should help with this.
Gatsby would be best suited to an indoor / outdoor lifestyle (he’s housetrained) and he'd love a playful doggie friend for company if you're not going to be home a lot. A good sized secure yard, daily walks, bones to chew on, toys to play with and lots of cuddles would make Gatsby very happy indeed! He is also a water baby, loving a splash around in a kiddy-pool during our warm Mildura days - he lies down and ducks his head under water with a big smile on his goofy face!
If Gatsby sounds like the kind of friendly, loving young dog you’ve always wanted in your life then please download and complete a SARG Dog Application form by following this link: http://www.sarg.net.au/adopt-a-pet.html

Adoption details
Please Note: SARG and our animals for adoption are located in Mildura in North-West Victoria.
Our adoption process commences with completing an Application form which you'll find at: www.sarg.net.au
The Application is then reviewed, references checked and a yard check done, then, if there are no issues, a meet and greet is organised. If all goes well the last stage is a 28 day home-trial to make sure that everyone is happy.
If the trial is successful our “stray” is then officially considered adopted and the microchip transferred into the new owners name.
If anything goes wrong SARG will always take back one of our animals :)
