About Pecan Pie
If you're searching for an adult dog who is petite and playful, gentle and smart, and absolutely unafraid of PDA (pup-lic displays of affection), then look no further than sweet-as-sugar Miss Pecan Pie.
Darling Pecan was found around three months ago as a stray. Nervous and wary, Pecan did not want to leave the area in which she was found (a suburban street gutter). Once captured, her rescuers took her straight to the local vet where it was discovered that Pecan was pregnant. After spending a few weeks at the pound Pecan was taken in by Maggie's Rescue, and just four days later she gave birth in the loving care of her foster home.
It is thought that Pecan's age is approximately 5 years. Her teeth are worn down in places, and it seems that she has had a number of litters before. This all points to the possibility that Pecan may have been kept in a cage and used for breeding.
While her background is likely grim, Pecan Pie does not need a pity party. Since her time in foster care, this gorgeous girl has really come out of her shell and blossomed into a lovely companion pup who deserves, more than anything, a forever family both to love and care for her, and to help her move forward and not dwell on the past.
Aside from being a wonderfully kind and loving mama to her four 9-week-old babies, Pecan's most favourite activities include ball games, park visits, treat eating, back scratches, belly rubs, eye gazing (she loves to get really really close and stare into your soul), long walks, silly time and couch cuddles.
A low-medium energy dog, she will need daily walks and/or games of fetch in the park, however her true calling is that of Professional Lounge Lizard.
Over the past 10 weeks of foster care, Pecan has been introduced to many new things. Some have taken a little extra time to get use to (such as car rides, wearing a collar and walking on a leash), while others she has adjusted to straight away (sitting before dinner, toilet training, relaxing on the couch). And there are some things Pecan is still working on (meeting new dogs in the park, visiting strange places with strange noises and learning about personal space with her humans).
She has met a wide range of dogs (breeds, sex, age etc) and is mostly comfortable with other well-adjusted dogs she meets after a short period of gentle introductions. She gets on with both male and female dogs, but enjoys the company of her Staffy foster brother most of all.
Pecan has not yet met any cats but like many terriers, she is very interested in the local possums.
We are looking for a home in which the resident adults and/or older children understand that quick movements and loud noises may unsettle Pecan. A home where her training can be developed further will be highly considered. Pecan is not a difficult dog, however her foster parents are committed to finding her an experienced adoptive home.

Adoption details
We ask all people looking to adopt to fill in our adoption enquiry form at http://www.maggiesrescue.org/adoption-enquiry/. Please use this link rather than the 'find out more' button on the pet's PetRescue profile.
We will then organise a time for you to meet with the foster carer and the pet you are interested in adopting.
Maggie's wants this to be a good experience for you, and we will occasionally suggest a different cat or dog as your situation may not meet the needs of the individual pet.
All our pets leave for their new homes on a two week trial. At the end of this period we will transfer the microchip to your details and the adoption is complete.
Your pet is a Maggie's Pet for Life, please consider this before adopting.
