About Poppy ~ hairless dog (trial 30/8/15)
Meet Poppy, our 4 year old, Chinese Crested, a naturally hairless breed. Poppy weighs 7.3kg and is an extremely gentle, loving dog who has excellent house manners. She is ideal for apartment living and ideal for allergy suffers. She also gets along well with cats and birds. She travels beautifully in the car.
Poppy has many special features. Firstly, she has no hair on her body and must be an indoor dog. She requires a good quality coat during the cooler months and a protective t-shirt when outdoors in the summer sun. She cannot be left outside for long periods of time in either winter or summer.
She does not shed hair (great for allergy sufferers) and she will not need flea treatment.
Her body shape is similar to a whippet. She needs a brisk walk daily with time off lead to have a free run. She enjoys meeting dogs on her walks but would be better suited as an only dog in her household though she would be ok with one other dog so long as he or she is friendly.
Poppy would prefer a home where someone is home more often than not. If children - they should be over ten years old. Poppy adores people and loves nothing better than to be snuggled up on the lounge with her family.
Grooming: Since she has no body hair, Poppy does not require brushing but she does need to be washed regularly especially in summer (weekly to ensure her pores are clean). Bathing is easy as Poppy is used to it. She dries in a flash. Her skin will need to be moisturised with a lanolin free cream such as inexpensive sorbolene.
Poppy was privately surrendered. She is seeking a forever home with a family who is wanting a dog to be part of their lives and an indoor companion. For further information about this unique, wonderful dog please contact Amanda by phone 0424 041 564 or email amattheheights@gmail.com. Poppy is in foster care in Adamstown Heights NSW 2289 (Newcastle). She is available for adoption interstate but you'll need to come pick her up.
Poppy's adoption fee is $400 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
