Ghost

Looking for a Maremma boy with real strength of character and glorious independence, then this is the lad for you! Like so many of his breed, he knows his own mind and follows his instincts. He's a gentle soul in a self-contained, aloof kind of way - you earn the right to be part of his pack!

Having said that, if you accept the magic, mystery and dignity this breed brings in abundance, he'll offer you steady, unstoppable companionship. He's not particularly phased by kids, but will simply avoid them if they're becoming too excitable for his comfort zone.

Some one experienced with dogs of his type may find him easier to appreciate - they're such regal, magnificent creatures! He's still inclined to designate his territory through marking at this point, and doesn't seem to have experience at all in being an inside boy.

He's not particularly rough or interested in rough play or boisterous canines. He even seems pretty relaxed about cats, and just lay around watching the chooks on his one meeting with them.

He's a speedy lad though - he'll rush out gates or doors at any opportunity and won't hurry to return, though as he bonds to his space and pack this improves to a point.

All in all, if you go in with your eyes open and expectations realistic, he's a great, regal dog and will make a great companion. WE have no information whatsoever on whether he'd be a suitable livestock guardian - like most working dogs, wearing the right breed label does not by default ensure he'd be a good working dog.
