About Pasquale
Meet Pasquale…. This handsome man is a 1.5 year old male Kelpie x.
Pasquale (aka Squale) has had one hell of year!!
Firstly a little about his personality...
From what I’ve observed over the months Squale has been with me, he hasn’t previously had much human contact. At the beginning he wasn’t sure about being touched and petted, though he certainly loves it now! He was frightened of being in the car, he now loves the car rides and is sometimes a touch too vocal expressing his excitement. He is very clever, and has mastered some basic commands such as sitting and waiting. Pasquale hasn’t had much interaction with other dogs and he really just doesn’t know what to do with them. Over the months he has become friends with some of the smaller foster dogs I’ve had in care, though it does take him time as his just not sure… He does love my cat and plays and wrestles with him every day.
Squale needs a home that will continue to support and work with him, teach and show him new things. He has so much love to give and is a very loyal boy that will make a wonderful addition to the right home. He was a working farm dog before coming into care and does show herding behaviours, which is to be expected…
Pasquale should not have any ongoing problems with his legs though he will almost certainly get arthritis in years to come. He is a very happy, excitable, healthy and now his legs are healed, active boy.
Below is more information on what happened to his legs and the treatment he received...
Pasquale has undergone multiple major surgeries on both his front legs, just so he was able to walk without splints…
So let’s get you up to date with just a small amount of what Pasquale had been through this year – Squale was involved in a farming accident and had already received treatment and surgery to amputate multiple toes from both of his front paws before coming to us.
Unfortunately this wasn’t the end of the troubles for Pasquale’s legs. The trauma he received had caused the ligaments in both his front legs to let go, meaning that when he tried to stand without supportive splints his legs bent painfully under the pressure.
After seeking the advice from Specialist Veterinary Surgeon, Dr. James Simcock at Southpaws Specialty Surgery for Animals, we then knew that Squale's only option was a surgical one.
Pasquale needed both the carpal joints in his front legs completely fused, making that joint rigid and able to support his weight – Bilateral Carpal Arthrodesis.
Both surgeries were extremely successful with no complications at all post-surgery. Recovery has consisted of Pasquale being strictly confined for the past 18 weeks and considering all his been through, he is doing great!! Which means it’s time to find him the perfect forever home…
I could talk about Pasquale for hours and if you have any question about him or his surgeries id be more than happy to give you a call once receiving your application.
LOCATED IN TRARALGON
