About Bertie
Meet Bertie! The poor darling was abandoned outside a rental property when her owners moved out leaving her and her five babies alone. She was very underweight and very scared, but nursed her babies like clockwork. When her kittens were 10 weeks old she adopted another litter, whose mum had been run over by a car (they were only 5 days old and would have died without her care). A few weeks later she once again took on another kitten.
Bertie will now tell you a litte about herself : -
My name is Bertie. My foster mum and dad decided to call me that because I make all these very funny “berrrt-berrrrt” noises every time they reach out to pat me. I’ve been in my current home for about 8 weeks now. When I first got here I was a bit unsure, but we have settled into a very enjoyable routine that goes something like this.
In the morning, I sit outside my foster mum & dad’s bedroom waiting for one of them to get up. When they do, I “berrt-berrrrt” and purr as loud as I can as they pat me and then I run down the hall and wait for my breakfast. Sometimes when they pat me when I’m eating, I purr so loudly it sounds like I’ve swallowed a rattle. I do love my food. I’ve been given a large variety of food since I got here and I pretty much love all of it, including the dry food.
My humans gave me all these colourful toys with lights, bells and whistles and I pretty much ignore all of them. My favourite thing to play with is a long piece of black string. They keep throwing balls and things with feathers around me and occasionally I swat at them to make them happy, but really, I prefer my string. I play with my humans for as long as they can in the morning (or until I’ve had enough) and then for the rest of the day I like to sit in the sun near the window and go to sleep or sleep on my bed on the couch.
I follow my humans around the house because I like to know where they are, and sometimes I go outside with them but I mostly stay inside sitting in the sun near the window sleeping until dinner time.
After dinner I use my litter tray again, then I like to play string and ignore the laser light my humans bought me. We play and play and I “berrrt” and “berrt” and when I’ve had enough I like to lie on my back and have my tummy rubbed.
I have been around older children, dogs and other cats.
I am an indoor girl, and only go outside supervised.
I hope you can offer me a permanent home as I really think I have shown that I deserve one of my own.
Medical notes
Bertie has been tested positive to FIV which just means that she has a lowered immune system and will require an inside home. She can share her home with other cats that are vaccinated against FIV or are FIV positive themselves.
Adoption details
After seeing an animal you are interested in we ask you to fill out an adoption expression of interest form which tells us a bit about you, your lifestyle and any previous pets. A meet and greet is then organised for you to meet your prospective new furry friend and if all goes ok, you are then able to adopt your new furry housemate.
