Sadie ~ Shar Pei X (on trial 16/8/15)

This is Sadie, our very cute but quite unique-looking shar-pei staffy cross. Sadie is around 12 months old, and she has a very expressive face. Her sharpie characteristics tend to make her look perpetually puzzled due to the creases in her forehead, but it also makes her look pretty intelligent, as if she is thinking something over and working out a plan. Her eyes are like glistening black pools and are very noticeable in her light tan face. Throw her loose sharpie-like chops into the mix and you’ve got a very unusual girl who’s a bit of a head-turner.

If there’s something she wants you to know Sadie likes to have a conversation with you, vocalising her thoughts in dog-speak and watching to see what you think about it. It actually sounds like a song. We usually pretend we understand, make some vague reply, and she agrees and wanders off with her tail in the air.

When Sadie was only 6 months old, someone dumped her in the pound with a shattered hip. Fortunately for Sadie there were some kind rangers to take her to the vet, and with the help of Dog Rescue Newcastle, Sadie’s hip was repaired. After a period of rehab she is now almost as good as new, and lives a normal life. She doesn’t walk with a limp, and nothing is really detectable about that leg unless she has been particularly active, and then she may favour it a little. Perhaps when she is old she may suffer from arthritis in that hip, so at that time her family must be happy to get medication for her from the vet. These tablets are not greatly expensive.

Sadie has some good doggy friends at her foster-carer’s house. She is a bit of a tomboy; she likes to wrestle and chase her buddies around. She gets on well with other dogs of her size or bigger, but she is not good with little dogs as she is not sure what they are. Having lived with a lot of other dogs she would not suit a situation as an only dog unless there was someone in the family who was home a lot.

Like all dogs Sadie enjoys her walk on the lead or a ride in the car. But her most favourite activity is snuggling up with you. If she is on the couch she loves to sleep with her head on your knee, and she makes a lovely little warm ball next to you. She is not a large dog, standing only around 53 cm from the floor to the top of her head, and she will not get any bigger.
